Suter won't make decision on Monday

Premier free-agent defenseman Ryan Suter did not decide his new destination Monday night. In fact, his camp refuses to put a timetable on when the decision might be made.

"There will be no decision on Ryan Suter [Monday night] and there is no timetable for his contract signing at this time," Neil Sheehy, Suter's representative, said in a statement "Ryan is considering his opportunities and is taking the necessary time to give each proper consideration."

Several teams are keenly interested in the services of Suter, the consensus best defenseman on the market.

The Nashville Predators, Suter's most recent employer, would like to retain his services and have not given up the chase despite the intense pressure being exerted by other teams since Suter hit the open market Sunday at noon ET.

Nashville general manager David Poile said Sunday night he planned to make a "firm" offer to Suter to establish a final bargaining position in attempt to break the logjam. Nashville, like many teams, is reluctant to make other personnel decisions until they know Suter's intentions.

Teams including Philadelphia, Minnesota, Detroit and Pittsburgh are in similar holding patterns as Suter weighs his options.

The pursuit of Suter has had a chilling effect on the market for the remainder of the free-agent defensemen. Both Matt Carle and Bryce Salvador are prime targets for teams looking to bolster their blue line, but neither is expected to sign until the Suter situation is resolved.

Quote of the Day

I've got a lot of experience and there's a lot of young guys. It's even making me excited a little more. It's kind of a new life. At my age, I feel like I know a lot of things what to do, but I just cannot do it anymore. It's a lot easier to tell them what to do because they've still got the legs and hands to do it. I just know things, but I cannot do them anymore.
