Report: Devils increase offer to Brodeur

The New Jersey Devils have reportedly increased their offer to make sure Martin Brodeur never plays for a second team in his NHL career.

TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting the Devils are now offering the 40-year-old goaltender a two-year deal that would keep him in New Jersey through the 2013-14 season. Brodeur became an unrestricted free agent Sunday afternoon and can sign with any club.

Brodeur has spent the past 18 seasons in New Jersey, which drafted him in the opening round (No. 20) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. His play in the second half of the 2011-12 season helped the Devils make a surprise run to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Chicago Blackhawks appear to also be interested in Brodeur's services.
