According to a tweet from TSN's Darren Dreger, Ray Whitney and Shane Doan will be available on the free agent market when it opens at noon ET Sunday, but they will have totally different mentalities.
Doan, 35, who has been with the organization for his entire career, wants to return to Phoenix but he wants to learn more about the future of the ownership situation before he makes his decision.
Whitney, 40, is hoping for a multi-year contract and could sign immediately. He led the Coyotes with 77 points in 82 games this past season, but Phoenix might be unable or unwilling to offer a 40-year-old player more than a one-year contract.
Yeah, it was a pretty special moment for me. Today was my Dad's [55th] birthday. I have a lot of family in town, so it was a special moment for me to score my first one today. A win definitely would have capped it off, but you can't have everything.
