Report: Ducks and Selanne to talk

One of the biggest offseason questions for the Anaheim Ducks is whether 41-year-old Teemu Selanne, their leading scorer in 2011-12, will return for another season. They'll reportedly get a better idea of the answer this weekend.

The Orange County Register reports that Ducks GM Bob Murray said he is scheduled to speak with Selanne over the weekend to get an idea of whether he is ready to officially commit to another NHL season and return to the team. Murray wouldn't offer anything beyond that in regard to where he's gotten any indication that Selanne will make good on a previous report out of Finland that said he would be back with the Ducks.

Selanne, who turns 42 on Tuesday, led the Ducks in scoring last season with 66 points. His 26 goals give him 663 for his career, 12th on the NHL's all-time list.

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau told the Register that Murray talked to Selanne on Monday and will speak to him again on Saturday. Boudreau said he hasn't spoken with Selanne personally.

"Indications are that I think he wants to come back, although I'm not 100 percent sure," Boudreau told the paper. "I'm still counting on him to hopefully be back.

"I can't put thoughts into his head, but, if I was deciding not to come back, I wouldn't be having a lot of conversations with my team and texting them good thoughts and ‘how you doing?' -- that sort of stuff. I seem to be getting good vibes."
