Gill re-signs with Predators

Defenseman Hal Gill has re-signed with the Nashville Predators, agreeing to a two-year, $4 million contract.

Gill had five assists and a plus-4 rating in 24 regular-season games in 2011-12 after being acquired by the Predators in a trade from the Montreal Canadiens to bolster Nashville's defensive-zone play and penalty-killing. He was hurt late in the season, however, and sat out the Predators' first-round playoff series against the Red Wings. He returned during the second round against the Coyotes, finishing with no points and a plus-2 rating.

The 37-year-old played in his 1,000th NHL game last season. In 14 seasons with the Bruins, Maple Leafs, Penguins, Canadiens and Predators, Gill has 36 goals, 184 points and a plus-47 rating in 1,070 games.

Quote of the Day

Jamie improves every game and every year. I've only been with him for two years, but as a player and as a person it seems like every week he's getting stronger and better, and becoming a better leader and better captain. He wants the team to be so successful that he's making himself better as a player.
