Phoenix Coyotes defenseman Rostislav Klesla was resting comfortably at home Monday after suffering a concussion and whiplash during a preseason game Sunday game against the Los Angeles Kings, coach Dave Tippett said at an afternoon press conference.

Klesla was taken from the ice at Jobing.com Arena on a stretcher midway through the first period after a hit by Kings forward Jordan Nolan. Klesla was alert and waved to the crowd as he was removed from the ice. He was taken to an area hospital and remained there until about 3 a.m., according to Tippett, before being released.

"He probably has a little bit of a headache but ... he's home, which is a good sign," Tippett said, adding there was no timetable for Klesla's return to the ice.

The Dallas Stars trimmed their training camp roster by four players Monday.

Goaltender Philippe Desrosiers and defenseman Troy Vance were returned to their Quebec Major Junior Hockey League clubs; Desrosiers, a 2013 second-round pick (No. 54) was sent to the Rimouski Oceanic, while Vance went back to the Charlottetown Islanders.

The Buffalo Sabres cut their roster by five players Monday when it returned five players to their junior hockey teams.

Among those returned to their Canadian Hockey League club was forward Justin Bailey, a Buffalo native selected by the team in the second round (No. 52) of the 2013 NHL Draft. He'll return to the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League for a second season.

The Los Angeles Kings on Monday trimmed their training-camp roster by returning eight players to their junior-hockey teams.

Among those sent back was goaltender Patrik Bartosak, who was returned to the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League. A fifth-round pick (No. 146) in the 2013 NHL Draft, Bartosak was named the best goaltender in the Canadian Hockey League last season.

The San Jose Sharks trimmed one player from their training-camp roster Monday, returning center Chris Tierney to his junior team.

A second-round pick (No. 55) in the 2012 NHL Draft, Tierney will play this season for the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League.

Philadelphia Flyers top goaltending prospect Anthony Stolarz was one of four players the team released from its training camp roster Monday.

Stolarz, taken in the second round (No. 45) of the 2012 NHL Draft, made 14 saves on 15 shots in the Flyers' preseason opener Sunday, a 4-3 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a game played at Budweiser Gardens in London, Ontario. He played half the game, following starter Steve Mason.

Patrik Elias and Jaromir Jagr reportedly will not play in Monday's preseason opener for the New Jersey Devils against the New York Rangers at Prudential Center (7 p.m. ET) in Newark, N.J.

Elias is a healthy scratch and Jagr, who was forced to exit the opening day of training camp on Sept. 12 after experiencing "general soreness," will not play until he is feels 100 percent. Both players were not available at the team's morning skate on Monday in Newark.

Tyler Toffoli skated on the Los Angeles' Kings top line in a scrimmage Saturday, taking the place of injured Dustin Brown alongside Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams.

The slight injury Brown suffered during an on-ice drill Thursday is located in his hamstring and shouldn’t have a major impact in preparations for the season, coach Darryl Sutter told LA Kings Insider.

"We're just going to be careful with [Brown]," Sutter said. "It's not very often a hockey player other than a goalie has a hamstring [injury], so I just want to be careful with him. ... Just make sure he’s getting ready for the end of camp."

BELLEVILLE, Ontario -- Winnipeg Jets forward Mark Scheifele is having his second experience at Kraft Hockeyville.

The Jets earned a 3-1 victory against the Ottawa Senators in 2011 at Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland. He expected a similar atmosphere against the Washington Capitals on Saturday night (7 p.m. ET, CBC, NHL Network-U.S.).

"It's pretty fun," Scheifele said. "Two years ago playing in St. John's was a pumped-up building. It was a fun building to play in and we're looking forward to a good hockey game, for sure."

BELLEVILLE, Ontario – Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele has experienced brief tastes of life in the NHL over the past two seasons. But the first-round pick (No. 7, 2011) said he believes he's ready to make the jump full-time.

Scheifele, 20, made it extremely difficult for Jets brass to send him back to the Barrie Colts in the Ontario Hockey League in the fall of 2011, when he scored his first NHL goal during a seven-game audition at the start of the 2011-12 season. But he was ultimately sent back to Barrie, where he scored 23 goals and 40 assists in 47 games.

He was held without a point in four NHL games last season and was sent back to Barrie after the Jets opted not to use a year on Scheifele's entry-level contract on the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season. Schiefele finished with 39 goals and 40 assists in 45 games for the Colts.
