Andrew Poturalski of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and Austin Ortega of the Indiana Ice were named co-recipients of the United States Hockey League's CCM Forward of the Week award.

Poturalski, a 5-10, 172-pound center, had three goals, two assists and a plus-4 rating in two games last week. He made his season debut by scoring the game-winning power-play goal in a 4-3 win against Indiana. He followed that a two-goal, two-assist game in a 7-5 win at Indiana.

Ortega, a 5-7, 160-pound left wing, had a goal, an assist and a plus-4 rating in a 5-3 win against Green Bay on Wednesday. He had a goal in Friday's loss to Cedar Rapids, and then had two more goals Saturday against the RoughRiders. Ortega now is second in the league with seven goals.

Also honored Monday were the Des Moines Buccaneers' Marcus Ericsson and Cedar Rapids' clay Anderson, who were named co-winners of the CCM Defensemen of the Week.

Guelph Storm center Hunter Garlent was named OHL Player of the Week on Monday after totaling three goals, five assists and a plus-3 rating in three games last week.

Garlent started his week with a goal and an assist Friday in a 6-3 win against the Sarnia Sting. On Saturday the 5-foot-8.25, 164-pound forward had a goal and three assists in 8-5 defeat of the Saginaw Spirit. He finished his week with a goal and an assist in a 7-1 defeat of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

After totaling 42 points in 60 games as an OHL rookie last season, Garlent has 10 points and a plus-5 rating in 11 games this season. NHL Central Scouting rated him as a C skater in its preliminary rankings of players to watch for the 2013 NHL Draft.

It appears forward J.T. Compher of the U.S. Under-18 National Team Development Program may be sidelined another two weeks with an undisclosed injury.

Compher, who has two goals and three points in six games for the USNTDP this season, is projected by many to be the first NTDP player off the board at the 2013 NHL Draft at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., in June. He was listed as an A skater on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary list of players to watch in the United States Hockey League in September.

"There is no timetable [on Compher's return], but his progress has been positive," U.S. Under-18 NTDP coach Don Granato told NHL.com. "I would think, if I'm going to guess, he'll be out two more weeks."

When it comes to the Everett Silvertips, most of the talk surrounds defenseman Ryan Murray, the second pick of the 2012 NHL Draft. Forward Joshua Winquist, a candidate for the 2013 draft, is doing his best to steal some of Murray's spotlight.

The 19-year-old forward had three goals and two assists for the Silvertips, as they won both games over the weekend. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder had a goal and two assists in a 3-2 win at the Prince Albert Raiders on Friday, and scored two goals in a 3-2 win at the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday.

Winquist leads Everett with eight goals, 13 points and a plus-8 rating.

Here is how a few other Western Hockey League draft prospects fared this past weekend:

* Lethbridge center Russell Maxwell had a pair of goals in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Kamloops Blazers on Friday.

* Tri-City right wing Phillip Tot and center Marcus Messier each scored two goals in the Americans' 6-3 win at the Regina Pats on Friday.

* Eetu Laurikainen turned aside 43 of 44 shots in the Swift Current Broncos' 2-1 win against Saskatoon on Friday.

* Spokane Chiefs left wing Adam Helewka scored both his team's goals in a 2-1 defeat of the Seattle Thunderbirds on Friday.

Center Nathan MacKinnon of the Halifax Mooseheads and goalie Philippe Desrosiers of the Rimouski Oceanic on Monday were named the TELUS stars of the week in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

MacKinnon and Desrosiers are regarded as top prospects for the 2013 NHL Draft in June at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. MacKinnon is listed as an A skater on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary players to watch list and Desrosiers is listed as a B goalie.

Baie-Comeau Drakkar forward Petr Straka, a second-round draft choice of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2010, was also named a star of the week in the QMJHL.

The Halifax Mooseheads have won 10 straight to climb to the top of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League standings, and the play of top-line center Nathan MacKinnon is a big reason.

Considered by many scouts a lock to be one of the top two players picked at the 2013 NHL Draft, MacKinnon had three goals and two assists in two games over the weekend. The 6-foot, 180-pound forward, who earned an A rating in NHL Central Scouting's preliminary ranking of players to watch for this year's draft, scored twice and added an assist in a 4-3 win against the Sherbrooke Phoenix on Friday, and had a goal and an assist in a 4-3 defeat of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan on Sunday.

MacKinnon, who is blogging about his season for NHL.com, now is second in the QMJHL with 15 goals and tied for fourth with 24 points. He also has a goal in seven straight games, the longest streak so far this season, and at least a point in nine in a row.

Here is how a few other top draft prospects fared over the weekend:

* Matthew Boudreau, MacKinnon's teammate, scored the other two goals in the Mooseheads 4-3 defeat of Sherbrooke Friday.

* PEI Rocket goalie Maxime Lagace had his first shutout of the season Friday, stopping all 30 shots in a 5-0 win at the Moncton Wildcats.

Kitchener Rangers left wing Justin Bailey missed five games with a concussion sustained on a hard hit in a game against the Windsor Spitfires on Sept. 27. He returned to ice Friday in his team's 6-2 win against Oshawa, playing sparingly on the fourth line.

Moved back into a more prominent spot in the lineup Sunday against Kingston, Bailey responded with his first two goals of the season in the Rangers' 5-2 win.

With Kitchener up 1-0, he faked a shot, then cut across the front of the net to score on a backhander 3:01 into the second. After Kingston had grabbed the momentum and pulled to within 4-2, he iced the game with another unassisted goal, at 10:24 of the third.

Bailey, a 6-3.25, 194-pound forward who earned an A rating in NHL Central Scouting's preliminary players to watch list, wasn't the only 2013 NHL Draft prospect in the Ontario Hockey League to have a big weekend. Here are a few other top performers:

* Plymouth right wing Ryan Hartman, a B skater on Central Scouting's preliminary rankings, scored his second OHL goal Friday and added two assists in the Whalers' 8-3 win at Kingston on Friday.

* Guelph Storm left wing Ryan Horvat scored twice and added an assist Friday in his team's 6-3 win against the Sarnia Sting.

Kitchener Rangers left wing Justin Bailey was held scoreless playing limited minutes in his team's 6-2 win Friday against Oshawa, his first game since sustaining a concussion Sept. 27 against Windsor.

The 6-foot-3.25, 194-pound forward earned an A rating from NHL Central Scouting in its preliminary rankings of players to watch for the 2013 NHL Draft. He was scoreless in three games when he was injured.

Even though he's had a rough start to his Ontario Hockey League debut season, scouts aren't ready to give up on him.

"He's a big guy, uses his size well," Central Scouting's Chris Edwards, who saw Bailey during the summer at a USA Hockey camp in Rochester, N.Y., told NHL.com. "He's got a real good shot and he's able to get it off coming in off the wing. For a guy that really never played at much of a [high] caliber before, he looked like he had it all together. He looked like he had an offensive touch to him. He used his size well. I left Rochester thinking he might be a top forward with a really good skill set. That's what I still think he's going to be."

Max Domi got the London Knights off to a fast start, but the Erie Otters recorded a 3-2 shootout victory in an Ontario Hockey League game Friday night.

Domi scored 46 seconds into first period, lifting a backhand from the right side inside the near post to give London a 1-0 lead. The goal was his sixth of the season and extended his points streak to nine games.

Domi was given an A ranking on NHL Central Scouting's preliminary players to watch list for the 2013 NHL Draft.

London took a 2-0 lead at 14:24 of the first period before Erie rallied with a late first-period goal and one early in the second.

Forward Justin Bailey of the Ontario Hockey League's Kitchener Rangers has begun skating without contact as he continues to progress via the "Return to Play" protocol.

Bailey has been sidelined with concussion-like symptoms from a hit he sustained in the neutral zone on Sept. 27 against the Windsor Spitfires.

"Justin is quite upbeat and excited to be skating again," Kitchener's head trainer, Dan LeBold, told NHL.com. "He is retaking his post-concussion impact test [Wednesday] and that will determine his next course of action along the RTP protocol."
