The Winnipeg Jets announced on Friday the signing of defenseman and alternate captain Tobias Enstrom to a multi-year contract extension. Terms were not disclosed.

Enstrom, 28, was second in scoring last season among Jets defensemen, posting six goals and 33 points in 62 games.

The native of Nordingra, Sweden is the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise leader among defensemen in games played (380, sixth most overall), points (204, fourth overall), and assists (172, third overall).

Enstrom’s 32 career goals are one shy of Yannick Tremblay for most goals by a defenseman in franchise history. He still holds the franchise single-season record for most assists by a defenseman with 44 in 2009-10.

He has represented his country in international competition six times, including four games and two assists at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver

Enstrom was originally drafted by Atlanta in the eighth round (No. 239) in the 2003 NHL Draft.

The Ottawa Senators announced Friday that the club has bought out the remainder of the contract of forward Bobby Butler, which was valid through the end of the 2012-13 season.

A native of Marlborough, Mass., Butler appeared in 94 games over the past three NHL campaigns with Ottawa, tallying 37 points (16 goals, 21 assists) and 22 penalty minutes. He was held scoreless in three postseason contests during Ottawa's first-round loss to the New York Rangers.

Butler, 25, was signed by the Senators on March 29, 2010, after completing his collegiate career with the University of New Hampshire.

The Ottawa Citizen reports the cost of the buyout is $400,000, paid to Butler in $200,000 installments over the next two years. Citing CapGeek.com, it says Butler's salary-cap charge will be $50,000 next season and $200,000 in 2013-14.

The New Jersey Devils reportedly have signed defenseman Matt Corrente and forwards Alexandre Carrier and Phil DeSimone.

General manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed the signings to The Record on Thursday.

Corrente's deal is said to be a one-year, two-way contract worth $525,000 at the NHL level or $105,000 at the AHL level.

The 24-year-old played 39 games last season for Albany of the American Hockey League. He had two goals, six assists and 73 penalty minutes.

A first-round pick (No. 30) by the Devils in 2006, Corrente has 34 games of NHL experience.

Carrier and DeSimone were signed to AHL contracts, the report says.

Carrier, 21, played last season in Austria.

DeSimone, 25, had 14 goals and 19 assists with Hamilton, Montreal’s AHL affiliate, last season.

Lamoriello also confirmed the Devils earlier re-signed defenseman Mark Fayne.

Fayne, who is recovering from offseason wrist surgery, said he will be ready for the season opener in October.

The New York Rangers agreed Thursday to a new contract with defenseman Anton Stralman, the team announced. Several reports say it is a two-year deal worth $3.4 million.

The sides had an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 31.

Stralman, who was a restricted free agent, finished with two goals and 18 points in 53 regular-season games and added three goals and six points in 20 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

A seventh-round draft pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2005, Stralman, who turns 26 on Aug. 1, has career totals of 13 goals and 92 points in 265 games with the Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets and Rangers.

The Edmonton Oilers announced Thursday they have agreed to terms with defenseman Alex Plante and center Chris VandeVelde on one-year contracts.

Plante, 23, played in 38 games last season with the Oklahoma City Barons in the American Hockey League and tallied 13 points (one goal, 12 assists) and 84 penalty minutes while being named to the Western Conference All-Star Team. He also appeared in three games for the Oilers, collecting an assist.

The 6-foot-4, 230-pound blueliner was selected in the first round (No. 15) by Edmonton in the 2007 NHL Draft. In 10 career NHL games, he has a pair of assists and 15 penalty minutes.

VandeVelde, 25, had 23 points (seven goals, 16 assists) in 68 games last season with the Barons. He also had six goals and 10 penalty minutes in 14 postseason games. He also appeared in five games for the Oilers in 2011-12 and scored his first NHL goal on March 25 against Columbus. In 17 career NHL games, VandeVelde (6-foot-2, 190 pounds) has a goal and two assists with 14 penalty minutes.

VandeVelde was selected by Edmonton in the fourth round (No. 97) of the 2005 NHL Draft.

Defenseman Jordie Benn has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Dallas Stars, the team announced Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The older brother of Dallas forward Jamie Benn made his NHL debut last season and had two assists in three games.

Defenseman Drew Schiestel has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Buffalo Sabres, the team announced Wednesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Chosen in the second round (No. 59) of the 2007 NHL Draft, the 23-year-old has played 156 games in the American Hockey League, with 52 points.

The Vancouver Canucks and forward Dale Weise have agreed to terms on a one-year contract, avoiding an arbitration hearing that had been scheduled for July 27.

The Vancouver Sun reports the deal is worth $615,000.

Weise, 23, had eight points and 81 penalty minutes in 68 games with the Canucks last season. In 78 NHL games with the Canucks and New York Rangers, Weise has eight points and 100 penalty minutes.

The Ottawa Senators announced Wednesday that the club has re-signed forward Stephane Da Costa to a one-year, two-way contract.

The Ottawa Citizen reports the deal is worth $800,000 at the NHL level or $80,000 at the AHL level.

Da Costa, 23, began the 2011-12 season with Ottawa, tallying five points (three goals, two assists) and eight penalty minutes over 22 contests before being assigned to the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League on Nov. 27. The Paris native played in 46 games with the B-Sens in 2011-12, scoring 13 goals while adding 23 assists for 36 points and accumulating 12 penalty minutes.

"He’s coming out of his entry level deal and he played some games in the National Hockey League, but he had to play in the American league to refine his game and get stronger," Senators assistant general manager Tim Murray said on the team's website. "He still has a ways to go in that department, but we recognize his talent level and his offensive ability with the puck and his vision on the ice. It’s all first class."

Da Costa was signed by the Senators as an undrafted college free agent on March 31, 2011, after two NCAA seasons with Hockey East's Merrimack College. In 67 career collegiate contests with the Warriors, he recorded 30 goals, 60 assists and 83 penalty minutes.

Da Costa is the only French-born player ever to be signed by the Senators. He has represented France at each of the past four IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships.
