Ducks better equipped to handle crazy atmosphere

WINNIPEG -- The Anaheim Ducks arrived here knowing the atmosphere for Game 3 of their Western Conference First Round series against the Winnipeg Jets would be crazy.

They just didn't know how crazy. Now they do.

Heading into Game 4 on Wednesday (9:30 p.m. ET; USA, SN, TVA Sports, FS-W), that knowledge of how difficult the 15,016 fans at MTS Centre will try to make it on them could be seen as an advantage the Ducks did not have prior to Game 3.

Jets 2014 first-round pick Ehlers recalled from junior

WINNIPEG -- The Winnipeg Jets want to give top prospect Nikolaj Ehlers an up-close look at Stanley Cup Playoff hockey in Winnipeg.

The Jets recalled Ehlers from Halifax of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Wednesday before Game 4 of the Western Conference First Round against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday at MTS Centre (9:30 p.m. ET; USA, SN, TVA Sports, FS-W). Anaheim leads the best-of-7 series 3-0.

The 19-year-old left wing from Denmark, the ninth pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, finished his junior season Tuesday. He had 37 goals and 64 assists in 51 regular-season games with Halifax this season. His 101 points ranked third in QMJHL scoring, and he reached 100 or more points for the second consecutive season.

Ehlers added 10 goals and 21 assists in 14 playoff games, and his 31 playoff points lead the QMJHL.

Jets confident they still can win series vs. Ducks

WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg Jets defenseman Tyler Myers had a simple question after the morning skate before Game 4 of the Western Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday at MTS Centre (9:30 p.m. ET; USA, TVA Sports, SN, FS-W).

"Why not us?" Myers said of the Jets, who trail the best-of-7 series 3-0 and face elimination. "Why can't we do it?"

The Jets are winless in six games against the Ducks in the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. In each of their three losses in the series Winnipeg has surrendered third-period leads; Anaheim has outscored Winnipeg 6-0 in the third period in the series.

"[The Ducks are] good at what they do," Jets center Bryan Little said. "They're a good team at keeping the pressure up the whole game and never giving up. They finished where they [did] in the standings for a reason.

"I think it's a mixture of playing a good hockey team and maybe us getting a little tight at the end of games. When it happens a couple times in a row it adds even more pressure to it when you're fighting for a lead at the end of the game."

Jets' Byfuglien has little to say heading into Game 4

WINNIPEG -- Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien didn't feel like saying much to the media Tuesday.

Byfuglien, a minus-3 in Winnipeg's overtime Game 3 loss, did speak to reporters a day before the Jets play Game 4 of their Western Conference First Round series against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday looking to avoid being swept out of the Stanley Cup Playoffs (9:30 p.m. ET; USA, SN, TVA Sports, FS-W).

Byfuglien answered every question with a version of, "As long as we stick together as a team we'll be all right."

Ducks' Kesler relishes animosity from Jets fans

WINNIPEG -- The Western Conference First Round series of the Stanley Cup Playoffs between the Anaheim Ducks and Winnipeg Jets has its villain.

Ducks center Ryan Kesler has long been a target of rowdy MTS Centre crowds since his time with the Vancouver Canucks. Playoff hockey has only intensified the dislike for Winnipeg fans.

Starting during warmups in Game 3 on Monday and continuing throughout the game, Kesler and Ducks forward Corey Perry received a steady stream of boos and chants inside the smallest arena in the NHL.

"[It] seems everywhere in Canada we go, they’re saying something bad about him," Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said Tuesday. "You’re going to have to ask him about what he did to this poor country. But you know what? Some guys like it. [Perry] feeds off it when you start getting on him. He loves that. I guess Ryan’s the same way."

Ducks could get forward Thompson back for Game 4

WINNIPEG – Center Nate Thompson could return to the Anaheim Ducks lineup as soon Wednesday when they play Game 4 of their Western Conference First Round series against the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Centre (9:30 pm ET; USA, SN, TVA Sports, FS-W).

Thompson took part in an optional practice Tuesday, his second straight day on the ice, and Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau said a final determination on his status for Game 4 would be made Wednesday.

"He looked good [Monday], but we'll see how it is [Wednesday]," Boudreau said. "Every day it's getting better. It's always day-to-day."

Jets hoping lessons learned can extend season

WINNIPEG -- The regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs have been one lesson after another for the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets will face another learning experience Wednesday when they try to fend off elimination by the Anaheim Ducks in Game 4 of the Western Conference First Round at MTS Centre (9:30 p.m. ET; USA, TVA Sports, SN, FS-W). Anaheim leads the best-of-7 series 3-0 after a 5-4 overtime win in Game 3 on Monday.

Eight Winnipeg players have made their playoff debuts in the series and the margin of error in playoff hockey is slim, as the Jets have learned. Anaheim has won each of the first three games after trailing entering the third period, the first team to do so in NHL history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Jets center Perreault motivated to defeat former team

WINNIPEG – If there is one player in the Winnipeg Jets dressing room who knows their Western Conference First Round series against the Anaheim Ducks is far from over despite being down 2-0, it would be center Mathieu Perreault.

There also probably isn't another player as motivated as Perreault to win Game 3 on Monday (9 p.m. ET; NHLN-US, NBCSN [JIP], SN, TVA Sports, PRIME).

"Despite the fact we're down 2-0 in the series, it doesn't change a thing for us," Perreault said in French on Monday. "Last year, for example, I was in Anaheim and we won the first two games in Anaheim, we went to Dallas and lost both games there and came back to Anaheim tied 2-2. So we have to do the same thing the Stars did.

"We're a good team at home, and we have to win this game."

Ducks embracing challenge of playing in Winnipeg

WINNIPEG – The Anaheim Ducks are playing the villain's role Monday, but they are just as excited to be part of a special moment in this city's history as the Winnipeg Jets are.

Having a 2-0 lead in the best-of-7 Western Conference First Round series certainly helps the Ducks appreciate the moment a little bit, but Game 3 on Monday (9 p.m. ET: NHLN-US, NBCSN [JIP], SN, TVA Sports, PRIME) will not be taken for granted, especially stepping into what will be an extremely hostile MTS Centre.

Still, the return of the Stanley Cup Playoffs to this city after a 19-year absence is special and the Ducks are looking forward to it.

"It's going to be awesome," Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf said. "This is what playoffs is all about when you get all the fans against you, all the fans chanting. It's a good time."

Jets return home looking to get back in series

WINNIPEG – The stakes for the Winnipeg Jets are very clear when they play Game 3 of the Western Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Anaheim Ducks on Monday at MTS Centre (9 p.m. ET; NHLN-US, NBCSN [JIP], TVA, SN,PRIME).

Anaheim leads the best-of-7 series 2-0, leaving Winnipeg with the task of having to win four of the final five games to advance to the second round. The Ducks went 3-0-0 against the Jets in the regular season.

"I think we're just trying to get some momentum back our way in this series," Jets center Bryan Little said Monday after the morning skate. "Tonight is a huge game. They can either take a pretty good commanding lead or we can make it a new series, and the momentum [will be] in our hands. It's kind of put everything on the line and see what happens tonight."
