Therrien responds to Bruins' comments on Price, refs

BROSSARD, Quebec -- Montreal Canadiens coach Michel Therrien was not the least bit surprised Monday to hear a few Boston Bruins had said they felt they found a weakness in goaltender Carey Price's game.

The best-of-7 Eastern Conference Second Round series between the Canadiens and Bruins is tied 1-1, with Game 3 on Tuesday at Bell Centre (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS).

Bruins defensemen Torey Krug and Dougie Hamilton said Sunday that the Bruins felt if they shot high on Price with traffic, they could take advantage of his tendency to crouch down in an attempt to look through screens in front of him.

When Therrien was asked about it Monday, he referenced the stories coming out of last season's Stanley Cup Final of the Bruins talking about shooting high to the glove side of Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford, whose goaltending coach at the time was Stephane Waite.

Lineup changes could be coming for Canadiens

BROSSARD, Quebec -- Montreal Canadiens coach Michel Therrien wouldn't confirm it, but it appears changes could be coming to his lineup for Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS).

Defenseman Douglas Murray, who has yet to play in six games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, was skating on the Canadiens' third defense pair opposite Mike Weaver, while Francis Bouillon was on the fourth pair with Jarred Tinordi.

Murray, listed at 6-foot-3, 240 pounds, would provide a more physical presence than Bouillon on the Canadiens defense, but Therrien refused to address any questions about his Game 3 lineup.

Canadiens' Price recovers missing Labrador retrievers

BROSSARD, Quebec – Someone made a nice save for Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Priceon Monday.

Price sent a message on Twitter early Monday saying: "If anyone finds two labs running around Candiac they're mine."

TSN Radio 690 also reported the news that Price's Labrador retrievers had escaped in the suburb south of Montreal, and a caller of the station who heard about it found the labs and returned them to Price.

According to the report, the caller got an autographed stick in return.

Bruins ready to face challenges of Bell Centre

BOSTON -- The Bell Centre can be a foreboding place for opposing players, particularly in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It's arguably the loudest building in the NHL, and the Montreal Canadiens tend to feed off that noise more than the other team. The crowd and atmosphere can also have other impacts on the game other than juicing up the local players.

With Game 3 of an Eastern Conference Second Round series, which is tied between the Boston Bruins and Canadiens 1-1, scheduled for Bell Centre on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS), center David Krejci knows just how hard a time the Bruins, or any team, can have on Montreal's home ice in the postseason.

Bournival forcing his way into Canadiens lineup

Montreal Canadiens rookie forward Michael Bournival is making it difficult for coach Michel Therrien to keep him off the ice, and that could be a problem for two of Montreal's veteran forwards.

Bournival was re-inserted into the lineup for Game 2 of the Canadiens' Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Boston Bruins on Saturday in place of veteran forward Travis Moen, who returned to the lineup in Game 1 after missing a month with a concussion.

Bournival began the game on Therrien's fourth line with Daniel Briere and Dale Weise, but finished it on the second line with Tomas Plekanec and Brendan Gallagher, taking the spot of Brandon Prust.

Bruins get boost from changes on defense

BOSTON – The Boston Bruins made one change to their defensive corps between Games 1 and 2 of their Eastern Conference Second Round series with the Montreal Canadiens.

Defenseman Andrej Meszaros replaced Matt Bartkowski, who had played four straight games dating back to the first round against the Detroit Red Wings.

Against Montreal, Meszaros had an assist and took one minor penalty in 16:35 of ice time.

"It's not what he [Meszaros] gave me, it's what we decided to do," Bruins coach Claude Julien said during an off day Sunday. "It's as simple as that. I think we felt we needed a change and we made that."

Although Julien wouldn't elaborate on his decision, Bartkowski's play had an impact on Boston's Game 1 loss. The defenseman, who missed the first two games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with an illness, took two penalties against the Canadiens, including one that led to defenseman P.K. Subban's game-winning goal in double overtime. Bartkowski also struggled on breakouts and with decision making in 26:26 of ice time. He had a plus-1 rating.

Bruins remain confident in struggling power play

BOSTON – It would have been difficult for the Boston Bruins to improve a power play that went 6-for-16 in the Eastern Conference First Round against the Detroit Red Wings and ranked third in the regular season at 21.7 percent efficiency, but few people expected this.

Through two games of the Eastern Conference Second Round against the Montreal Canadiens, Boston's power play has been less of a weapon. The Bruins went a combined 0-for-5 in the two games, which they split to send to the series to Bell Centre for Game 3 on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS).

"We definitely have to improve," Bruins defenseman Torey Krug said Sunday. "You know special teams win you hockey games. And their power play is showing up and our penalty kill's not, and our power play is struggling to find the back of the net. We're getting good looks, though. We have good movement and good momentum. But at the end of the day, in the playoffs that doesn't matter. You've got to score goals and I think we're on the verge of finding the back of the net, for sure."

Bruins defenseman Meszaros in for Bartkowski

BOSTON – Boston Bruins defenseman Andrej Meszaros was inserted into the lineup in the place of Matt Bartkowski for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

Meszaros was dressed for the first time since Game 2 of Boston’s first-round series against the Detroit Red Wings and started the game beside Johnny Boychuk.

Canadiens' Bournival replaces Moen in Game 2

BOSTON – Montreal Canadiens rookie forward Michael Bournival will get back in the lineup for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Second Round series against the Boston Bruins on Sunday, coach Michel Therrien said.

Veteran forward Travis Moen will be scratched after playing 13:07 in Montreal's 4-3 double-overtime win in Game 1, which was his first game back after missing a month with a concussion.

Therrien said the long absence coupled with the quick turnaround between games led him to put Bournival back in the lineup.

Bruins' Bartkowski putting poor Game 1 behind him

WILMINGTON, Mass. -- The day after a 4-3 double-overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Second Round, only a handful of Boston Bruins players took part in an optional practice at Ristuccia Arena on Friday.

Among those that took the ice was defenseman Matt Bartkowski. The 25-year-old was clearly still frustrated that his holding penalty on Montreal forward Dale Weise at 4:10 of the second overtime set the stage for Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban’s game-winning goal seven seconds later.

Bartkowski wasn't just fixated on that penalty. He was upset about his entire body of work during his 26:26 of ice time.
