Initially, the referee closest to the puck signalled goal but after discussion with the other on ice officials the determination was made that the deflection was with the stick above the cross bar. Video review supported that decision. According to Rule 60.5 "An apparent goal scored by an attacking player who strikes the puck with his stick carried above the height of the crossbar of the goal frame shall not be allowed. During the shootout in the Columbus Blue Jackets/Minnesota Wild game, the Situation Room initiated video review when the puck entered the Minnesota net. Video review confirmed that Wild goaltender Darcy Kuemper did not touch the puck during Ryan Johansen's deke attempt before Johansen shot the puck into the net, therefore there was no rebound by the shooter on the play. Good goal Columbus.

According to Rule 24.2 "The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent's goal line and once it is shot, the play shall be considered complete. No goal can be scored on a rebound of any kind (an exception being the puck off the goal post or crossbar, then the goalkeeper and then directly into the goal), and any time the puck crosses the goal line or comes to a complete stop, the shot shall be considered complete."

The referee informed the Situation Room that it was a good goal regardless of when the net was displaced since Yakupov was in the process of shooting the puck into the net before the Columbus player displaced the goal. According to rule 63.6 "In the event that the goal post is displaced, either deliberately or accidentally, prior to the puck crossing the normal positions of the goal posts, the referee may award a goal. In order to award a goal in this situation, the goal post must have been displaced by the actions of a defending player, the puck must have been shot (or the player must be in the act of shooting) at the goal prior to the goal post being displaced, and it must be determined that the puck would have entered the net between the normal position of the goal posts. The goal frame is considered to be displaced if either or both goal pegs are no longer in their respective holes in the ice, or the net has come completely off one or both pegs, prior to or as the puck enters the goal". At 9:32 of the first period in the Blue Jackets/Sabres game, the Situation Room initiated a video review but the referee informed the video room that he had killed the play when he lost sight of the puck. This is not a reviewable play.

FLA @ PHI - 2:48 of the Third Period

At 2:48 of the third period in the Panthers/Flyers game, Jay Rosehill was assessed two separate minor penalties for roughing and a 10-minute misconduct. According to Rule 19, Example 7, the Flyers had the choice to play one player short-handed for four minutes or two players short for two minutes. The Flyers chose to play one player short for four minutes.

"Team A Captain's choice to play one player short-handed for four minutes or two players short-handed for two minutes. Should he choose the latter, an additional team A player must be placed on the penalty bench to serve the minor penalty for A3".

At 5:21 of the third period in the Lightning/Sabres game, the end-zone referee had a Buffalo penalty on delay. The referee did not see Sabres forward Steve Ott touch the puck, which then rebounded to Jamie McBain whose shot entered the net simultaneous with the referee blowing his whistle. The net result was the correct call - no goal, penalty to Buffalo.

At 2:30 of the third period in the Avalanche/Maple Leafs game, video review supported the referee's call on the ice that Jamie McGinn's shot deflected off P.A. Parenteau and entered the net in a legal fashion. According to Rule 78.4 "if an attacking player has the puck deflect into the net, off his skate or body, in any manner, the goal shall be allowed." Good goal Colorado.

At 16:41 of the first period in the Hurricanes/Penguins game, video review determined that Pascal Dupuis kicked the puck into the net with his right skate. According to Rule 49.2 "A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking motion to propel the puck into the net." No goal Pittsburgh.

At 7:55 of the third period in the Flyers/Canadiens game, video review was initiated by the Situation Room because the puck entered the Philadelphia net. Referee Brian Pochmara was in the process of blowing his whistle prior to the puck entering the net. No goal Montreal.

According to Rule 78.5 (xii) "Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the Referee when the referee deems the play has been stopped, even if he had not physically had the opportunity to stop play by blowing his whistle".

At 6:42 of the second period in the Kings/Jets game, video review determined that Blake Wheeler's shot entered the net after it had come off its moorings. No Goal Winnipeg.

According to Rule 78.5 "Apparent goals shall be disallowed by the referee when the net becomes displaced accidentally. The goal frame is considered to be displaced if either or both goal pegs are no longer in their respective holes in the ice, or the net has come completely off one or both pegs, prior to or as the puck enters the net".

At 1:04 of the first period in the Kings/Wild game, video review confirmed the referee's call on the ice that Kyle Brodziak's shot deflected off Matt Cooke's skate and into the net in a legal fashion. The determining factor was that the speed of the puck propelled it into the net and that Cooke's skate only redirected it. According to Rule 49.2 "A puck that deflects into the net off an attacking player's skate who does not use a distinct kicking motion is a legitimate goal." Good goal Minnesota.
