Finland grabs 3-2 lead on USA Blue

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Things opened up a bit in the second period, with a pair of goals by Finland giving it a 3-2 lead.

Ville Leskinen put Finland ahead when he rocketed down the right side, barreled in on USA Blue goalie Anthony Stolarz and beat him with a backhand to the short side at 10:59.

Artturi Lehkonen put Finland up by a pair when he scored a power-play goal halfway through a penalty on USA Blue's Nick Ebert.

Dansk helps Sweden beat U.S.

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Silver never will be as good as gold, but Sweden goalie Oscar Dansk still was able to enjoy a win against USA White in the opener of USA Hockey's National Junior Evaluation Camp on Sunday.

It was the first time Sweden and the United States had met since the gold-medal game of the 2013 IIHF World Junior Championship, when the Americans' won the gold medal with a 3-1 victory. Dansk was the third goalie for that game.

Sunday, however, he was the starter and made 15 saves on 17 shots in Sweden's 4-2 victory.

USA Blue, Finland tied after first period

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- USA Blue and Finland finished the first period of their game at Herb Brooks Arena tied 1-1.

A pair of Washington Capitals prospects opened the scoring for USA Blue. Riley Barber made a beautiful cross-ice pass through the slot to a cutting Conner Carrick, who finished the play at 5:16.

Lineups for USA Blue vs. Finland

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The second game of the doubleheader here at the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp will feature USA Blue facing Finland.

The USA Blue squad will feature Riley Barber, one of three players back from the team that won the gold medal at the 2013 World Junior Championship.

Another player to keep an eye on is defenseman Anthony DeAngelo, who plays for the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League and should be one of the top players eligible for the 2014 NHL Draft.

Sweden beats USA White in opener

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Sweden took advantage of two more USA White penalties to earn a 4-2 win in the first day of exhibition games at the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp.

After Tommy Vannelli was called for delay of game at 14:59, Lucas Wallmark took advantage when he took a pass from Sebastian Collberg and whipped a shot from the right side over goalie Collin Olson at 15:56.

USA White 2, Sweden 2 after two

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- The teams traded goals in the second period, and 40 minutes were tied 2-2.

Anton Lindholm scored Sweden's lone goal as his wrist shot from the point eluded USA White goalie Collin Olson at 13:02. Just 1:12 later, though, Andrew Copp scored to tie the game.

Olson replaced Jon Gillies in the American goal halfway through the period.

Grzelcyk, Burakovsky score early in scrimmage

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- After one period in the first exhibition game at the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation camp, USA White and Sweden are tied 1-1.

USA White's Matthew Grzelcyk, a Boston Bruins prospect, opened the scoring 3:28 into the game with a power-play goal set up by Michael Brodzinski.

Just more than two minutes later, a penalty on USA White let Sweden tie the game on a power-play goal by Andre Burakovsky, the Washington Capitals' first pick at the 2013 NHL Draft.

U.S. World Junior camp starts this weekend

The first step in picking the teams for the 2014 World Junior Championship starts this weekend, when the United States, Finland and Sweden arrive in Lake Placid, N.Y., to take part in the USA Hockey National Junior Evaluation Camp.

The teams will practice and play exhibition games from Aug. 3-10 on the Herb Brooks 1980 Arena ice at the Olympic Training Center.

Canada will join them in Lake Placid after a two-day camp Aug. 4-5 in Brossard, Quebec, at the Montreal Canadiens' training site.
