ANAHEIM -- San Jose Sharks coach Todd McLellan left open the possibility of lineup changes after what he called "easily" the team's most disappointing loss of the season Saturday.

But San Jose had an optional skate Monday and the most McLellan revealed was that Ryane Clowe would not play against the Anaheim Ducks because of a reported shoulder injury, while indicating there were no call-ups. Antti Niemi will start in goal.

"We'll make some decisions on other players after that," McLellan said.

Clowe was injured in the first period of a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings, after which McLellan questioned his team's motivation and effort. He was forced to mix and match lines because of Clowe's absence, but added it probably wouldn't have made a difference.

DALLAS -- After a highly disappointing 8-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks in front of a sellout crowd at American Airlines Center on Saturday, the Dallas Stars return to the ice against the Calgary Flames on Monday.

The Stars are 0-2-0 against the Flames this season, having lost to them 7-4 at Scotiabank Saddledome on Feb. 13 and then falling 4-3 at home four days later. Dallas coach Glen Gulutzan has a formula for salvaging the final contest in a four-game homestand, a stretch in which the Stars are 0-2-1 and have been outscored 14-2.

"I think consistency [is the key]," Gulutzan said. "I think playing a 60-minute hockey game [is key]. I know that sounds redundant, but if it's 1-1, 0-0 after two, that's fine. We've just got to play 60 minutes."

The Stars enter this game almost completely healthy. Fourth-line wing Ryan Garbutt will miss a second straight game with a hand injury and veteran defenseman Stephane Robidas was absent from the morning skate, but for good reason.

TAMPA -- The Philadelphia Flyers will look to go into a six-day break on a high note when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN, RDS).

Both teams should be desperate for points; the Flyers are enter 11th in the Eastern Conference, four points out of a playoff spot. The Lightning are two points behind Philadelphia in 12th.

Also Monday, Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen will become the 282nd skater to play in 1,000 NHL games, the sixth player born in Finland to reach that mark -- and the first ever to do it on his birthday. Timonen turned 38 on Monday.

Mired in a three-game losing streak in which they have scored only two goals, the New York Rangers appear set to reunite their three biggest guns on one line Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes.

According to reporters in attendance in Greenburgh, N.Y., Marian Gaborik, Brad Richards and Rick Nash skated together on a line at practice. It was a common sight during the first two weeks of the season, but the unit eventually was broken up in an effort to give the team a more balanced look offensively.

Nash has been a consistent performer all season -- he has 9 goals and 23 points in 23 games -- but Richards and Gaborik have been mired in slumps since the season's early stages. Richards has two goals and six assists in his past 20 games, while Gaborik has three goals and six assists in his past 22 games, and just one goal in his past 14 games.

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang will not return Sunday against the Boston Bruins because of a lower-body injury, the team announced.

The NHL's scoring leader among defensemen, Letang has three goals and 25 assists in 26 games this season. He recorded a shot on goal, a blocked shot and a minus-1 rating in 7:02 of ice time during the first period against the Bruins.

Letang, who missed three games in early February because of a lower-body injury, has at least one assist in seven of his past eight games -- all Pittsburgh victories. He is third in the NHL in assists behind teammate Sidney Crosby and the Tampa Bay Lightning's Martin St. Louis.

Letang's next point will be the 200th of his career. He has a seven-game assist streak in home games.

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh Penguins star Evgeni Malkin skated on his own again Sunday morning but will not play in the team's afternoon game against the Boston Bruins as he continues to recover from an upper-body injury.

Malkin, the NHL's reigning MVP and scoring champion, will sit out his fifth consecutive game and for the ninth time in the Penguins' past 12 contests. The team has said the latest injury is unrelated to a concussion that kept him out of four games from Feb. 24-March 2.

Malkin, who has four goals and 19 assists in 21 games this season, is believed to have sustained the current injury while absorbing a check from the Toronto Maple Leafs' James van Riemsdyk late in the third period of a game March 9. Malkin took one shift after the hit, which occurred along the boards in the neutral zone, but did not play the final two minutes of regulation nor during overtime.

The Penguins are 6-2 without Malkin this season, winning each of the past four games without the two-time Art Ross Trophy winner. Pittsburgh (21-8-0) has won eight consecutive games overall and can take over sole possession of the Eastern Conference lead with a win Sunday against Boston.

The No. 2 pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, Malkin had 50 goals and 59 assists last season and has 551 points in 448 career games. With Malkin out, the Penguins have used Dustin Jeffrey and Brandon Sutter in his place centering their second line.

With Malkin down, the Penguins have not had any healthy scratches among their forwards over the past week. If any of their forwards were to be injured, the team would be forced to dress seven defensemen unless it made a roster move.

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils forward Harri Pesonen will make his NHL debut Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens at Prudential Center. Pesonen will skate as the left wing on a line with Patrik Elias and David Clarkson.

The Devils signed Pesonen, 24, last year after the Stanley Cup Final ended. He was playing professionally in his native Finland.

Pesonen, who was called up Tuesday, has 25 points, including 11 goals, in 54 games with the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League.

"Some energy, some fresh legs," Devils coach Peter DeBoer said when asked what he wants to see out of Pesonen. "It's his first NHL game so I think he'll be excited. He's a guy that's played pro hockey over in Europe a little so he's not a 20-year-old rookie coming in; he's a 24-year-old that's played some pro. I'm hoping that that transition is a little bit easier for him."

Devils rookie Stefan Matteau will play for the first time March 9. He has been a healthy scratch for the past three games.
