At the Rink: Ducks at Islanders

NEW YORK – The New York Islanders will be without first-line right wing Kyle Okposo for the second straight game when they face the Anaheim Ducks at Barclays Center on Monday (7 p.m. ET; FS-W, MSG+).

Okposo missed New York's 1-0 loss at the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday with a lower-body injury and won't play against the Ducks, but coach Jack Capuano said he doesn't feel the injury is a long-term problem.

"I don't think so, but I don't know for sure," he said after the morning skate. "The injury that he has needs a little bit of rest. We'll see where it takes him after these 7-8 days off. It's been lingering on for quite some time, a couple, three weeks; maybe even longer.

At the Rink: Devils at Islanders

NEW YORK -- The New Jersey Devils will be without their top two centers for a second straight game when they visit the New York Islanders at Barclays Center on Sunday, but will have top-line right wing Lee Stempniak in the lineup.

Neither Travis Zajac (upper body) nor Adam Henrique (lower body) played Friday in a 3-2 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings at Prudential Center, and neither will dress against the Islanders. Coach John Hynes had hoped Henrique, who was injured Tuesday in a 3-2 shootout loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs, would be able to play against the Islanders, but he didn't practice Saturday and is day-to-day.

But Hynes said Sunday that Stempniak, who missed practice Saturday because of illness, will be able to play. Stempniak is second on the Devils with 23 points.

At the Rink: Senators at Rangers

NEW YORK – Center Kyle Turris will be a game-time decision when the Ottawa Senators open a four-game road trip against the New York Rangers on Sunday (7 p.m. ET; TVA Sports, TSN5, MSG).

Turris left Ottawa's 3-2 overtime victory against the New York Islanders on Saturday late in the third period with an injured right leg. The Senators said X-rays showed no broken bones, and he made the trip to New York.

"It looked a lot worse than it was," coach Dave Cameron said Sunday. "Injuries are fluke things. If he's able to play, it would be the luck of the draw."

Turris has played 287 consecutive games since being acquired by the Senators from the Arizona Coyotes on Dec. 17, 2011. Should he be unable to play, Cameron said Ottawa will dress seven defensemen. That would mean Patrick Wiercioch, a healthy scratch Saturday, would play.

Neither team had a morning skate.

U.S., Canada look to advance to championship game

The United States and Canada will have to defeat preliminary-round opponents again in the semifinals on Saturday to advance to the championship game at the IIHF World Championship in Prague, Czech Republic.

The U.S. defeated Russia 4-2 during round-robin play on the way to a first-place finish in Group B. But the Russian team they play in the first semifinal will be bolstered by the addition of NHL goal-scoring leader Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals. He flew to Prague after the Capitals were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the New York Rangers on Wednesday. Ovechkin, who scored 53 goals during the regular season, had the Capitals' goal in a 2-1 overtime loss in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Second Round.

Ovechkin is making his 11th appearance at the World Championship; he has helped Russia to the gold medal three times, including last year.

The U.S. has won seven of its eight games in the tournament, including a 3-1 quarterfinal victory against Switzerland on Thursday.

Canada, U.S. lead final eight at World Championship

Sidney Crosby can move one step closer to the Triple Gold club when he leads Canada against Belarus on Thursday in one of four quarterfinal games at the IIHF World Championship in the Czech Republic.

A total of 25 players and one coach (Mike Babcock) are members of the Triple Gold club, meaning they've been on teams that won an Olympic gold medal, the Stanley Cup and a World Championship. Crosby has two Olympic golds and the Stanley Cup; however, Canada hasn't won a World Championship since 2007, one year after finishing fourth despite Crosby's 16 points in nine games following his rookie season for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

At the Rink: Blue Jackets at Islanders

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Happily for the New York Islanders, their final regular-season game at Nassau Coliseum won't be the last time they take the ice at the only building they've ever called home.

The Islanders play host to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday in their last regular-season game before moving to Barclays Center in Brooklyn in the fall. But after advancing to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second time in three years, the Islanders are assured of at least two more games at the Coliseum when they play the Washington Capitals in an Eastern Conference First Round series.

New York locked up third place in the Metropolitan Division with a 3-1 victory at the Pittsburgh Penguinson Friday. The Islanders will have a chance to jump into second place with a victory after the Capitals lost 4-2 to the New York Rangers in an afternoon game.

At the Rink: Ducks at Islanders

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The New York Islanders will have a different look when they host the Anaheim Ducks at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday (1 p.m. ET; PRIME, MSG+).

Coach Jack Capuano hinted after a 3-2 home loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday that he might shake up his line combinations. The first line of John Tavares, Kyle Okposo and Josh Bailey has slumped badly since Okposo returned March 10 after missing 22 games because of surgery to repair a detached retina. In the seven games since Okposo's return, the Islanders are 1-5-1 and Tavares has two points, one of which came a week ago when he assisted on an empty-net goal by Okposo.

Tavares' line was on the ice for all three of the Kings' goals, and Okposo's errant one-handled clearing attempt led to the game-winning goal by Los Angeles center Anze Kopitar with less than five minutes remaining.

Rookie forward Anders Lee had success playing with Tavares and Bailey during Okposo's absence, and Capuano said two hours before game time that Lee will return to that line, with Tavares in the middle and Bailey switching to the right side. Okposo will play on the right side of center Frans Nielsen and left wing Nikolay Kulemin, and Tyler Kennedy will move to the open spot on a line with Brock Nelson and Ryan Strome.

At the Rink: Coyotes at Islanders

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Chad Johnson's improved performance is earning him more playing time.

The New York Islanders backup goaltender will start for the second time in three games when the Arizona Coyotes make their final visit to Nassau Coliseum on Tuesday.

It's Johnson's fourth start in 11 games; for comparison, he made a total of four starts in December and January combined, with Jaroslav Halak backstopping the Islanders to first place in the Metropolitan Division and tying a franchise record with 32 victories.

"He's played well his last few games," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "He deserves the opportunity."

At the Rink: Oilers-Islanders

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- There will be some missing pieces on both sides Tuesday when the Edmonton Oilers visit the New York Islanders.

The Islanders again will be without forwards Kyle Okposo, Cal Clutterbuck and Michael Grabner, as well as top-four defenseman Calvin de Haan. None of them played Sunday in a 3-2 victory at the Buffalo Sabres that wrapped a three-game road trip. Okposo will be out for several more weeks with an upper-body injury; the others are dealing with what coach Jack Capuano called "bumps and bruises, nothing serious," but won't play.

That means forwards Colin McDonald and Harry Zolnierczyk will dress for the second straight game. McDonald had the first goal against the Sabres and Capuano said he liked what he saw from each of them.

"Harry has that quickness, that speed you like and you can utilize him in different situations," he said. "Colin we know what we are going to get on that line. He crashes and bangs and plays sound positional hockey for us. I thought both of those guys threw their bodies around in that game."

Oilers place Hall, Pouliot on IR; Bachman recalled

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- The Edmonton Oilers placed forwards Taylor Hall and Benoit Pouliot on injured reserve Tuesday, and said Hall could miss as long as six weeks.

Hall had an MRI on his injured left ankle, and coach Todd Nelson said Tuesday the examination revealed a second injury.

"He suffered a new injury, a bone injury, and he's out for six weeks," Nelson said. Asked if the new injury was a fracture, Nelson said, "I'm not sure. It's just a new bone injury and he's out for up to six weeks."
