At the Rink: Kings at Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Looking to spark the Arizona Coyotes after four straight losses on home ice, coach Dave Tippett may drop rookie forward Anthony Duclair to the fourth line against when they play the Los Angeles Kings at Gila River Arena on Saturday (9 p.m. ET; FS-W, FS-A, PLUS).

The Coyotes didn’t skate Saturday, but Viktor Tikhonov was skating with Max Domi and Martin Hanzal on the second line during practice Friday. Duclair, who has two of his 12 goals in the past 15 games, joined Kyle Chipchura and Boyd Gordon on the fourth line.

There might be some shake-ups on defense as well, but it won’t be known until pregame. Defenseman Jarred Tinordi has not made his Arizona debut since being acquired from the Montreal Canadiens last week.

“These are tight games, there are just things we can do a little better to get the result we want,” Tippett said. “I didn’t like the way we started the game (Thursday), and that’s not just young guys. It goes right through our lineup. For some guys, it’s all about work, while other guys tend to rely more on their skill. Right now, we need everybody to work in games.”

At the Rink: Sharks at Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Coyotes will honor captain Shane Doan prior to their game Thursday against the San Jose Sharks (9 p.m. ET; CSN-CA, FS-A).

Doan passed Dale Hawerchuk to become the leading goal-scorer in Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets history with his 380th on Dec. 31. Doan bobblehead dolls will be handed out to the first 5,000 fans.

"The longevity here and being not just a great player, but a great person, Shane is very deserving," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said. "To do it and do it all with one organization is pretty phenomenal, especially in today's sports.

"He defies his age. If you look at the smile on his face and the work he puts in every day, you'd never think he was that age. Hopefully, he just keeps going."

At the Rink: Sabres at Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Coyotes made two trades in the past week and continued to shuffle their roster prior to the game against the Buffalo Sabres on Monday (9 p.m. ET; MSG-B, BELL TV, FS-A).

One of their constants of late, rookie goaltender Louis Domingue, will get the start. He was 5-0-2 in seven consecutive starts before sitting out a 2-0 loss Saturday against the New Jersey Devils.

The Coyotes assigned veteran forward Steve Downie to Springfield of the American Hockey League after he cleared waivers over the weekend.

Downie, who was signed to a one-year, $1.75 million contract this past summer, has three goals and six points in 25 games and has been a healthy scratch in seven of the past nine games.

"He hasn't played much lately," coach Dave Tippett said. "He's got to get his game up and moving here."

At the Rink: Red Wings at Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- After having a four-game winning streak end Monday, the Detroit Red Wings will try to end an opponent's run of success Thursday when they play the Arizona Coyotes (9 p.m. ET; FS-D+, FS-A).

The Coyotes are playing their best hockey of the season, extending their own winning streak to four games by coming from behind to defeat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 in overtime Tuesday. The Coyotes are 8-1-2 in their past 11 games and will look to win five straight for the first time in more than two years (Oct. 26-Nov. 5, 2013).

"We're a confident group right now," forward Anthony Duclair said in comments tweeted by the Coyotes. "We're playing really well and when we play as a team we can beat anyone in this League."

At the Rink: Oilers at Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Edmonton Oilers forward Nail Yakupov will not play Tuesday against the Arizona Coyotes (9 p.m. ET; SNW, FS-A PLUS) because of an ankle injury.

Yakupov took part in the Oilers' optional morning skate but coach Todd McLellan told the Oilers website that Yakupov isn't quite ready to return. Tuesday will be the 22nd straight game he's missed with a sprained ankle sustained Nov. 25.

McLellan said he's hopeful Yakupov will be able to play Thursday against the San Jose Sharks.

With Yakupov still injured and Matt Hendricks serving the first game of a three-game suspension from the NHL Department of Player Safety for boarding Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad on Sunday, the Oilers (17-23-3) will play with seven defensemen. Brad Hunt, who was a healthy scratch Sunday, will be the seventh defensemen.

At the Rink: Predators at Coyotes

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Arizona Coyotes managed to deal with a long stretch without Martin Hanzal. But having the 6-foot-5 center back in the lineup makes things a lot easier.

Hanzal has missed 13 of the Arizona's first 40 games this season, but he returned Thursday and scored the deciding goal in a big 2-1 win against the Calgary Flames to keep the Coyotes rolling.

The Coyotes are 6-2-1 in their past nine games and open a seven-game homestand Saturday against the Nashville Predators (9 p.m., ET; FS-A, FS-TN).

At the Rink: Jets at Coyotes

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan has a chance at history against the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday (9 p.m. ET; TSN3, FS-A PLUS), a team from the city where he started his NHL career.

Doan has 379 goals, tied with Dale Hawerchuk for the most in Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets history. Doan is the last active member of the original Winnipeg Jets, playing there as a rookie in 1995-96.

"It's unique; the fact that it's Winnipeg and they have a new team again, and we're playing them," Doan said. "It would be special for it to happen [Thursday] but who knows what will happen."

Doan had a hat trick in the Coyotes' 7-5 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. He has five goals in his past four games, and 11 goals in 27 games this season.

At the Rink: Blackhawks at Coyotes

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – With centers Martin Hanzal and Boyd Gordon still out of the lineup, the Arizona Coyotes will give rookie center Laurent Dauphin a chance to make his NHL debut against the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday (9 p.m. ET; CSN-CH, FS-A).

Dauphin, the 39th pick of the 2013 NHL Draft, had 10 points in 30 games with Springfield of the American Hockey League before being recalled Monday with forward Craig Cunningham. They will join Kyle Chipchura on the fourth line against the Blackhawks.

"We'll throw him in with Gordon and Hanzal out," Arizona coach Dave Tippett said. "He's played well and he's one of the good prospects we've had down there this year so we'll see what he can do.

"His quickness, skating, ability to read plays quickly are reasons why we made the move. Playing against the Stanley Cup champions, that's a good start for him."

At the Rink: Kings at Coyotes

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – When Arizona Coyotes center Martin Hanzal underwent back surgery in the spring, it was hoped that a lot of the injury issues that have plagued him during his career might be slowed as well.

Unfortunately, Hanzal continues to miss time leaving a huge hole in Arizona's top six forwards.

Hanzal will sit out for the sixth time in the past seven games and the ninth time this season when the Coyotes play the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday at Gila River Arena (9 p.m. ET; FS-W, FS-A).

Hanzal, who turns 29 in February, has played great hockey when available this season. He has 20 points in 26 games (tied for third on the team), been a huge part of both special teams units and wins 54.5 percent of his faceoffs for a team that craves puck possession.

"He plays hard and when you play as hard as he does the injuries are something we've learned to deal with," coach Dave Tippett said. "He's in great shape, the injuries he's had before haven't been an issue this year but a number of other things have affected him. It's just about getting on the other side of that."

At the Rink: Islanders at Coyotes

GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Arizona Coyotes will have two-thirds of its top line back in the lineup when they host against the New York Islanders at Gila River Arena on Saturday (MSG+2, FS-A).

Center Martin Hanzal, who has missed the past four games with various lower-body injuries, will return as will Anthony Duclair, who missed the 7-5 loss against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday.

Along with linemate Max Domi, the trio has combined for 25 goals and 63 points this season. Hanzal's absence touches all areas of the game for the Coyotes (14-15-2), from power play to penalty kill to faceoffs.
