Devils sign Brunner to multiyear contract

The New Jersey Devils on Tuesday signed forward Damien Brunner to a multiyear contract. Brunner's agent, Neil Sheehy, wrote on his Twitter account that the contract is two years for a total of $5 million.

Brunner was invited to Devils training camp on a professional tryout and had two assists playing on a line with Patrik Elias and Jacob Josefson in the Devils' preseason win against the New York Islanders last Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

"He came to camp without a contract and showed us what he can do," Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said.

Jets send 2013 top pick Morrissey back to junior team

The Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday trimmed five players from their training camp roster.

Among those leaving the club is defenseman Joshua Morrissey, the team's first-round pick (No. 13) at the 2013 NHL Draft. He was returned to his junior team, the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League.

Thumb injury sidelines Blue Jackets' Bass

Columbus Blue Jackets coach Todd Richards told the Columbus Dispatch that Blue Jackets forward Cody Bass will be out 4-6 weeks with a broken thumb.

Bass sustained the injury when he fell to the ice during a preseason game Monday.

Blackhawks reduce training camp roster by eight

The Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday reduced their roster by eight players, with six assigned to the team's American Hockey League affiliate.

Joining the Rockford IceHogs are forwards Drew LeBlanc, Terry Broadhurst, Philip Danault, Byron Froese and Kyle Beach, and goaltender Antti Raanta.

Avalanche return Bigras to junior team

The Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday sent defenseman Chris Bigras to his junior team, the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League.

Bigras, a 2013 second-round (No. 32) draft pick, had an impressive training camp in making a surprise bid for an opening-night roster spot.

Wild trim training camp roster down to 28 players

The Minnesota Wild on Tuesday reduced their training camp roster to 28 players.

The Wild assigned forwards Raphael Bussieres, Josh Caron, Kris Foucault, Tyler Graovac, Erik Haula, and Zack Phillips; defensemen Corbin Baldwin, Colton Jobke, and Kyle Medvec; and goaltenders Johan Gustafsson and Darcy Kuemper to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League.

Ducks send Gibson, five others to AHL

The Anaheim Ducks trimmed their roster to 35 players Monday night, sending six players to the Norfolk Admirals in the American Hockey League.

Among those demoted were goaltender John Gibson, the club’s second-round pick (No. 39) in 2011. Gibson went 17-9-1 with a 2.41 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in 27 games for the Kitchener Rangers in the Ontario Hockey League last season.

Sharks' Torres out minimum six weeks

San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres will be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks with what general manager Doug Wilson said Monday was an issues with the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

The immediate plan is to wait until the swelling goes down to determine the extent of the damage and whether Torres needs surgery or rest. If surgery is required, Torres will be out between three and four months.

Stars send 2011 top pick Campbell to AHL

The Dallas Stars on Monday sent goaltender Jack Campbell to the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League.

Campbell, a 2011 first-round pick (No. 11), was 0-0-1 with a 5.29 goals-against average and .824 save percentage in one preseason games.

In 40 AHL games last season, the 21-year-old went 19-13-3 with a 2.65 GAA, .905 save percentage and two shutouts.

Blackhawks trim camp roster to 36

The Chicago Blackhawks on Monday made moves that reduced their training camp roster to 36 players.

Forwards Mark McNeill, Garret Ross and Alex Broadhurst, defensemen Dylan Olsen, Klas Dahlbeck and Adam Clendening, and goaltender Kent Simpson were assigned to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

In addition, forward Teuvo Teravainen was sent to Jokerit of SM-liiga in Finland and forward Ryan Hartman was assigned to the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League.
