Blackhawks pare camp roster to 47 players

The Chicago Blackhawks released or reassigned nine players on Tuesday, paring their training camp roster to 47.

The Blackhawks assigned forward David Gilbert to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League and returned three players to their junior teams. Five other players were released from training camp

The defending Stanley Cup champions' active roster includes 28 forwards, 14 defensemen and five goaltenders.

Lightning release three from amateur tryout deals

The Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday trimmed their training camp roster to 59 players as they released three players in camp on amateur tryouts.

Those let go were forward Brett Welychka, defenseman Jake Dotchin and goaltender Eric Brassard.

Brassard likely will play for the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season.

Tampa Bay also signed 21-year-old forward Joel Vermin to a three-year, entry-level contract. The Lightning selected the Swiss native in the seventh round (No. 186) of the 2013 NHL Draft. Vermin had 13 goals and 35 points in 47 games with Bern of the Swiss A-League last season.

Coyotes return Samuelsson to junior team

The Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday returned 2012 first-round pick Henrik Samuelsson to his junior team, the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League.

Samuelsson, a right wing selected with the 27th pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, had 33 goals and 80 points in 69 WHL games last season, and then had 11 goals and 19 points in 22 WHL playoff games.

Maple Leafs reduce training camp roster by 14 players

The Toronto Maple Leafs reduced their training camp roster from 51 to 37 players Tuesday, sending 11 players to the American Hockey League and three others to their respective junior clubs.

Forwards Sam Carrick, Andrew Crescenzi, Jerry D'Amigo, Josh Leivo, Greg McKegg and Brad Ross; defensemen Petter Granberg, Dylan Yeo and Zachary Yuen; and goaltenders Christopher Gibson and Garret Sparks have all been assigned to the Toronto Marlies.

Forwards Frederik Gauthier (Rimouski, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) and Ryan Rupert (London, Ontario Hockey League), as well as defenseman Kevin Raine (Sudbury, OHL) were reassigned to junior.

Senators return four players to junior teams

The Ottawa Senators on Tuesday reduced their training-camp roster by returning four players to their junior teams.

Sent back were defenseman Ben Harpur (Guelph, Ontario Hockey League), forward Vincent Dunn (Gatineau, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League), and goaltenders Francois Brassard (Quebec, QMJHL) and Chris Driedger (Calgary, Western Hockey League).

Senators sign Lazar to entry-level contract

The Ottawa Senators on Tuesday signed 2013 first-round pick Curtis Lazar to a three-year, entry-level contract.

"Curtis is a first-round pick and obviously a player and prospect that we think has a good upside," Senators general manager Bryan Murray told the team's website. "We're trying to get our best players tied up and he is certainly one of the guys of the future in this organization so we're very, very happy to get him signed at this point."

The 17th pick of the draft, Lazar had 38 goals and 61 points in 72 games with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League last season, and then had nine goals and two assists in 20 playoff games.

Jets trim training camp roster by 10 players

The Winnipeg Jets trimmed their training camp Monday by 10 players.

Center Zachary Bell was sent to the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the St. John's Ice Caps. Nine other players were re-assigned to their junior teams.

Penguins sign Dea, trim 11 from training camp roster

The Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday signed forward Jean-Sebastien Dea to a three-year, entry-level contract while also re-assigning 11 players.

Dea, goaltenders Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry, and forward Matia Marcantuoni were sent back to their respective junior teams. Forwards Paul Thompson, Tom Kostopoulos, Brian Gibbons and Dominik Uher, and defensemen Clark Seymour, Reid McNeill and Nick D'Agostino were sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

Ducks cut seven players

The Anaheim Ducks cut their training camp roster to 53 players on Monday by returning one player to his junior team and releasing six more from amateur tryout agreements.

The Ducks returned defenseman Kenton Helgesen to the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League. Anaheim chose Helgesen in the seventh round (No. 187) in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Canadiens cut 14 players from training camp

The Montreal Canadiens pared their training camp roster by 14 players Monday.

Ten players -- forwards Joonas Nattinen, Stephen MacAulay, Stefan Fournier, Sven Andrighetto, Louis Leblanc and Erik Nystrom, goaltender Robert Mayer and defensemen Morgan Ellis, Darren Dietz and Dalton Thrower -- were sent to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League.

Defenseman Matt Lashoff will be invited to report to the Bulldogs training camp.

The Canadiens returned Martin Reway, Charles Hudon and Zachary Fucale to their respective teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
