Scouts and Capitals Join NHL
June 11, 1974: The Kansas City Scouts and Washington Capitals officially received their NHL franchises. Before the start of the 1976-77 season, the Scouts moved to Denver to become the Colorado Rockies and later the New Jersey Devils.
