Not much has gone right for the Columbus Blue Jackets this season. But two video reviews went their way Tuesday night as they edged St. Louis 2-1, ending the Blues' winning streak at four games.

After Derek Dorsett put the Jackets ahead at 6:49 of the second period, the Blues stormed the net in the final minute of regulation, and a scrum in the final seconds resulted in a pileup in the crease. The puck went into the net, but video replays showed the Blues' David Perron falling on top of goalie Steve Mason and then shoving the puck into the net.

"Once guys started piling in I had no idea where the puck was," he said. "I didn't know if it was going to be a goal or not. You never know until they make the call. Once they did, it was a good feeling."

After a lengthy review, the goal was disallowed.

"It was the right call on the no goal because it went in off my glove," Perron admitted via Twitter.

The first call to go the Jackets' way came at the end of the opening period. David Backes  opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 18:51 -- but with Columbus still on the power play, James Wisniewski beat Jaroslav Halak just as the first period expired. A video review showed that the pick crossed the goal line with :00.1 seconds remaining in the period.

"Finally, it's nice to get a break there," Wisniewski said. "They reviewed it and we got the bounce that we needed to get."

But Jackets coach Todd Richards said his team didn't get anything it didn't deserve.

"To me, those are no-brainers," he said. "We didn't catch a break, to me that's just playing hockey."

Mason made 31 saves, 15 in the third period. Halak also stopped 31 shots.

"I thought it was one of our best 60-minute performances of the year," Richards said. "I thought our battle level was great. We got contributions from everyone tonight. "I'm real happy with our guys, the way they showed up and the way they competed."

The Jackets went ahead when Samuel Pahlsson's off-balance shot was stopped but not controlled by Halak, who ended up lying on his stomach with the puck sitting in the crease. Dorsett won the race and jammed it into the net for his 10th of the season.

The Blues took the lead when Columbus' Jeff Carter couldn't control the puck during a power play. Perron grabbed it and fed Backes, who deked and beat Mason with a backhander.

Carter atoned for his misplay by winning a draw with two seconds left in the period. The puck came to Mark Letestu, who fed Wisniewski for a one-timer that barely beat the clock.

"To me, that's why you play 20 minutes," Richards said. "If it was 19:59, the goal wouldn't have counted."

Wisniewski also saved a goal earlier in the period when Chris Stewart picked up a rebound and had an open net and slid a shot that the defenseman was able to pull back a split-second before it completely crossed the goal line.

Blues coach Ken Hitchcock was upset with his team's performance.

"We outplayed them in the first, they outplayed us badly in the second and third," he said. "They were much the better team today. We've gotten away with this on the road the last couple of games and won. Tonight we didn't."

Material from team media and wire services was used in this report.
