KANATA, Ont. -- Joakim Lindstrom scored twice and the Colorado Avalanche connected four times on the power play to rout former teammate Craig Anderson and the Ottawa Senators 7-1 on Thursday night.

The Avs traded Anderson to Ottawa in February, and he played well enough to earn a four-year deal with the Senators. But after spotting the Senators an early lead when Milan Michalek scored a power-play goal 4:05 into the game, the Avs ran off seven unanswered goals against their former goaltender while outshooting Ottawa 39-16. Colorado won its third road game in four days -- the Avs won 1-0 in Boston on Monday afternoon and 3-2 at Columbus on Wednesday night.

Ottawa is 1-3-0, with the only win coming against Minnesota in a shootout on Tuesday.

The Senators, debuting their Heritage jerseys to commemorate their 20th NHL season, got on the board when Michalek tipped a power-play slap shot from Erik Karlsson past Jean-Sebastien Giguere, making his first start of the season.

But Ottawa's first lead of the season did not last long. The Avalanche tied the score on the man-advantage when Milan Hejduk beat Anderson stick-side off a feed from Erik Johnson at 7:04, then took the lead for good when rookie Gabriel Landeskog scored his second goal in two nights, converting a pass from Ryan O’Reilly at 8:28.

Anderson kept the score at 2-1 before a bad bounce helped the Avs score at 17:20 of the second period. A shot by Ryan Wilson was deflected into the air by Ottawa defenseman David Rundblad and landed behind Anderson. The goaltender could not find the puck, but Lindstrom did and knocked it over the goal line.

The Avs outshot the Senators 20-4 in the middle period and 30-8 through 40 minutes, but led only 3-1 before blowing the game open in the third period thanks to their special teams.

Matt Duchene’s power-play wrist shot easily beat Anderson blocker-side off a feed from Landeskog at 1:48. Avs forward Chuck Kobasew was called for roughing at 2:37, but Colorado’s Daniel Winnik charged down the ice on a 2-on-1 and beat Anderson for a shorthanded goal at 4:19. David Jones and Lindstrom added late power-play goals to complete the rout as the Avs went 4-for-6 with the extra man.
