Lightning keep rolling by blanking Flyers 4-0
Philadelphia Flyers 0, Tampa Bay Lightning 4
It has taken only a month for Dwayne Roloson to make Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman look like a genius.

Yzerman acquired the 41-year-old goaltender from the New York Islanders on Jan. 1. On Tuesday night, Roloson stopped 38 shots for his fourth shutout in his month with the Lightning as Tampa Bay blanked the Eastern Conference-leading Philadelphia Flyers 4-0.

"I don't think it's a roll," Roloson said. "I just think that the team is playing great. I'm fortunate enough to be making the best of an opportunity."

Flyers coach Peter Laviolette certainly though Roloson made a difference.

"We had a lot of zone time," he said. "We had 40 shots, maybe 80 attempts. It was one of those nights."

The win gave the Lightning a 3-0-0 record on their 12-game homestand, which continues Friday against Washington. Two of Roloson's first three shutouts came against the Caps,

"I think it's one of those things, you cherish the moment, but at the same time we've got to forget about it," Roloson said. "We've got another big game on Friday against Washington."

Teddy Purcell scored two goals in the first 1:21 for the Lightning. Steven Stamkos added his NHL-leading 39th goal of the season, and Steve Downie also scored for Tampa Bay, which has a six-game winning streak. Tampa Bay, which has won all three games against the Flyers this season, trails the conference leaders by two points.

"They've got a good team. "They've had a good year," Laviolette said.

The Lightning have missed the playoffs each of the last three seasons and haven't won a postseason series since winning the franchise's only Stanley Cup in 2004.

Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was pulled after giving up three goals on six shots during the first, and was replaced by Brian Boucher. Philadelphia lost for just the third time in the last 13 games.

"When you're down 2-0 on two shots, I think it surprised everybody," Philadelphia coach Peter Laviolette said.

Purcell beat Bobrovsky from the slot 19 seconds into the game, finishing a give-and-go with Vincent Lecavalier. Just 62 seconds later, Simon Gagne's shot went into the net off Purcell's leg for a 2-0 lead.

"I don't think we were out of sorts in the first," Flyers captain Mike Richards said. "I just thought they were very opportunistic. Gave them, probably, too many scoring chances. It's just one of those games, I guess."

Purcell has 3 goals and 7 points in his past three games.

Roloson, coming off a 2-0 shutout of Toronto, stopped all 13 shots he faced in the opening 20 minutes. He also made four saves early in the third, including an in-close chance by James Van Riemsdyk.

"He's been our backbone back there," Purcell said.

Downie made it 3-0 from at 14:24 of the first. Stamkos completed the scoring by beating Boucher 8:51 into the third.
