Richards scores No. 200 in Stars' win over Ducks
Anaheim Ducks 1, Dallas Stars 2
Marcus Vinnerborg didn't need much time to make his mark in an NHL game.

The Swedish referee, who became the first European to work an NHL game Tuesday night, announced that Brad Richards' go-ahead goal indeed counted after a video review midway through the third period as the Dallas Stars edged the Anaheim Ducks 2-1 at the American Airlines Center.

With the game tied at 1, Richards' shot from the left circle glanced off the post, and the referees initially ruled no goal at 8:24 of the final period. But replays showed that the puck crossed the goal line in the air and Richards was credited with his 200th NHL goal.

"I don't know if it was a break … I think we deserved to score the goals that we did," Crawford said. "We had several great chances. It was a real good game. Our guys, they've got to get prepared to play as many of these games as they possibly can. If we have that type of effort and that type of commitment to play an overall game, then we can be very successful."

Kari Lehtonen stopped 26 shots and Steve Ott added a power-play goal for the Stars, returning from an 0-3 road trip to win their fourth straight at home.

"It was tough at times, but we stayed with it," Richards said. "We hadn't been home for a little over a week, so it was good to be back here. We needed a win."

Corey Perry scored on the power play and Jonas Hiller made 24 saves for the Ducks, who face the Wild in Minnesota on Wednesday night. Despite the loss, Anaheim, which went 1-for-6 with the man advantage, is 6-1-1 in its last eight games.

"We had our fair share of chances," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "It wasn't like we were devoid of chances, we came up empty. Even more-so, we had lots of good chances on our power play, too. ... We're just not really sharp offensively. We got to think 'shoot more,' be a little more selfish."

The Stars got a break midway through the first period when Teemu Selanne rang a shot off the right post. Lehtonen made a glove save on Todd Marchant's shorthanded breakaway with just under six minutes left in the opening period.

Later on the same power play, Richards' pass sent Ott in alone, and Ott shot the puck between Hiller's pads to give Dallas a 1-0 lead at 14:43.

"I think getting a good start tonight was one of our keys," Stars forward Jamie Benn said. "We definitely got it there."

Anaheim was on its fifth power play of the game when Perry ripped a shot past Lehtonen at 8:29 of the second period to make it 1-1. It was Perry's ninth goal of the season.

"I think we played better in the third than they did," Lehtonen said. "It's just great to get back to winning ways."
