Video review gives Isles 3-2 win at Tampa Bay
New York Islanders 3, Tampa Bay Lightning 2

Talk about something that was worth waiting for.

The New York Islanders had to wait an extra 10 minutes for a video review before Matt Moulson's shot 1:56 into overtime was ruled a goal, giving the Isles a 3-2 victory against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.

Just as Pavel Kubina's penalty was expiring, Moulson chopped at the puck during a scramble. It hit the arm of Dan Ellis and hopped into the air. Ellis swiped at the puck, apparently sweeping it off the goal line. Play continued until the next play stoppage, 3:28 into OT, after which the play was reviewed. Following a delay of nearly 10 minutes, the goal was allowed, giving the Isles their second overtime win this week. They also won in OT at Toronto on Monday.

"You can't get too excited, you've got to wait for the official call," defenseman Mark Eaton said. "But when it comes, obviously, we were happy."

The Isles had an idea early in the review process that they were going to get the victory.

"Our video coordinator saw it while they were reviewing it and told us on the bench that he thought 100 percent it was in," coach Scott Gordon said.

Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier was philosophical..

"It's too bad it took that long," Lecavalier said. "I'm sure they looked at it from every possible angle."

Michael Grabner and PA Parenteau also scored for the Islanders, who are 4-1-2 in so far this season -- their best start since 2001-02. Ex-Islander Sean Bergenheim and Martin St. Louis had goals for the Lightning, and Ellis made 22 saves.

Lightning coach Guy Boucher wasn't unhappy with the ending, but he was very displeased with his team's play, especially early in the game."

"To be honest with you, I didn't care about the review," Boucher said. "We didn't come out in the first period. We didn't skate. We didn't battle. Half our bench wasn't there. Unacceptable."

Grabner, a waiver pickup from Florida at the end of training camp, put the Islanders ahead with his second of the season just 2:15 into the game. Bergenheim, who signed with Tampa Bay this summer after the Islanders let him leave, got a measure of revenge at 18:05 when beat Rick DiPietro on a breakaway.

St. Louis' goal 4:44 into the second gave the Lightning their first lead, but Parenteau tied it at the 10-minute mark, taking a flubbed shot by James Wisniewski that turned into a perfect pass and ripping a one-timer past Ellie from the left circle during a 5-on-3 power play.

DiPietro finished with 28 saves -- the best of which was a stop on a second breakaway by Bergenheim late in the second period.
