EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -Edmonton coach Craig MacTavish was mad about Calgary's late tying goal. Then, the Oilers' weak shootout effort really ticked him off.

"I can't think of a way to make it any easier on the goalie than what we did in the shootout," MacTavish said after Edmonton failed to put a shot on goal in its three shootout chances in 3-2 loss Saturday night. "The shootout was very disappointing."

Todd Bertuzzi scored the only goal in the shootout, converting in the first round.

With goalie Miikka Kiprusoff on the bench for extra attacker, the Flames tied it with 1:05 to play when Matthew Lombardi blasted a shot past Dwayne Roloson.

"It was a nothing play," MacTavish said. "We had done a good job checking in the last 5 minutes of the game, but we came out of our defensive formation and they capitalized. Lombardi put a nice shot in to tie it. It was tough to recover from."

Jarome Iginla also scored in regulation to help the Flames win for fourth time in their last five games.

"It's a big win for our team," defenseman Dion Phaneuf said. "They're not always going to be pretty but especially on the road against a team that played very hard. The effort was there, but it was not pretty. But you've got to win those ones, too."

Erik Cole and Ales Hemsky scored for Edmonton. The Oilers lost their third in a row, but picked up a point to remain tied with Anaheim for eighth place in the tight race for the eight Western Conference playoff spots.

"Over the course of 82 games you're going to lose a couple in the last minute or two," said Shawn Horcoff, who assisted on both Edmonton goals. "We'll take the point and move on at this point in the season. We don't have any time to sit and dwell on negatives. They're a good hockey team and we played a good game against them. Obviously, we would have like two points, but we only got the one."

Edmonton opened the scoring with 7 1/2 to go in the opening period. Horcoff made a nice backhand pass through traffic to get the puck to Cole with space, and Cole beat Kiprusoff high to the stick side for his 14th of the season.

The Flames had their share of first-period opportunities, none better than with just over a minute remaining when Roloson came across with a quick kick save to stop Michael Cammalleri at the side of the net.

Calgary drew even with 3 minutes to play in the second period. Cory Sarich faked a shot before passing to Iginla, who swatted his 22nd into a wide open net with Roloson frozen on the play.

Edmonton regained the lead 1:46 into the third period when Horcoff fed Hemsky on the right hand side and his quick shot seemed to surprise Kiprusoff. It was Hemsky's team-leading 19th goal of the season.

Notes: Roloson made his 15th consecutive start for the Oilers since Mathieu Garon was traded to Pittsburgh on Jan. 17. ... The Flames called up Jamie Lundmark and Kyle Greentree from Quad City of the American Hockey League.
