ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -The Anaheim Ducks showed the Detroit Red Wings that repeating as Stanley Cup champions might not be so easy.

Francois Beauchemin batted in a rebound 1:39 into overtime, Teemu Selanne scored three goals for his 21st NHL hat trick, and Ryan Getzlaf had a career-high five assists Wednesday night in the Ducks' 5-4 victory over the Red Wings in a meeting between the past two Stanley Cup winners.

"These kind of games are tough ones from the standpoint that you're playing the best team in the league and they push you to the limit just to compete with them," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "We started to grind and play more of our type of game, and things turned our way."

Brian Sutherby gave Anaheim a 4-3 lead with 7:04 left in the third period. The Red Wings pulled even with 1:23 remaining when Dan Cleary beat Beauchemin to a dump-in and fed a pass to Henrik Zetterberg for his second goal of the game and seventh this season.

"It was a little disappointing that we let them score in the last two minutes, but you can't really think about that too long. You just have to bounce back," Selanne said. "We knew that we were having a strong game."

Getzlaf set up the winner by stickhandling around Brian Rafalski and skating in on goalie Chris Osgood, who attempted a poke-check that sent the puck fluttering into the air. Beauchemin swatted at it, but it went in. The Ducks waited out a video replay before they could celebrate their fifth straight victory.

"It was just instinct," Beauchemin said. "The puck was right there. I just tried to tap it in. You don't wait for it to come lower than the crossbar. You just hit it and hope it's good.

"Actually, I thought it wasn't that close."

The loss was the first in six road games for the reigning champion Red Wings (7-2-1), who led the Western Conference last season with 115 points - 13 more than third-place Anaheim.

Pavel Datsyuk also scored two goals for Detroit. Eight of the Red Wings' 10 games have been decided by one goal. The other two were decided by two-goal margins, with the Red Wings scoring an empty-netter in the final minute both times.

Selanne's first two goals came during 5-on-3 advantages. The third tied it 3-3 just 25 seconds after Detroit's Tomas Kopecky got an interference penalty.

Chris Pronger got the puck in the high slot from Getzlaf, faked a slap shot and found Selanne in the left circle for a one-timer that beat Osgood. Selanne, whose three goals doubled his season total, tied the franchise record for power-play goals in a game that former linemate Paul Kariya set on March 29, 2001, at San Jose.

Each of Detroit's first three goals came on redirections against frustrated Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who slammed his stick on the ice after Zetterberg got his stick on Jiri Hudler's centering pass. The puck skidded past the goalie's left skate at 16:14 of the second period for a 3-1 Detroit lead.

But Selanne triggered Anaheim's comeback with 51 seconds left in the second period and the Red Wings two men short. His intended centering pass for Scott Niedermayer in front of the crease caromed off the right skate of Detroit defenseman Andreas Lilja and past Osgood, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Ducks, coming off a 4-0 road trip, tied it less 1-1 at 14:11 of the first period during another two-man advantage after Mikael Samuelsson and defenseman Andreas Lilja were called for roughing 32 seconds apart.

"We cannot afford to play 5-on-3 for so long," said Marian Hossa, who set up both of Datsyuk's goals. "They've got a good team and they are going to score some goals. We were up and the game was in our hands. We just gave it away. We have to make sure that the next game we don't have so many penalties."

Selanne's hat trick was his 12th with Anaheim, and his 558 career goals moved him past Johnny Bucyk into 21st place on the NHL career list, two behind Guy Lafleur.

The teams were skating 4-on-4 with the score 1-all, when a goal by Pronger was waved off by an interference penalty against Selanne at 18:18 of the first.

Notes: The Red Wings were ranked fourth on Forbes' annual list of the NHL's most valuable franchises, released Wednesday. Mike Ilitch's club is worth $303 million, trailing the Toronto Maple Leafs ($448 million), New York Rangers ($411 million), and Montreal Canadiens ($334 million). All four teams are among the league's Original Six. ... The Red Wings have scored at least one power-play goal in eight straight games and are 14-for-44 overall. ... Niedermayer set the Ducks' career record for assists by a defenseman with 127, earning two Wednesday.
