ST. LOUIS (AP) -Shawn Horcoff's offense helped the Edmonton Oilers keep pace, his defense helped forced overtime, and his shootout goal gave them a rare victory in St. Louis.

Horcoff had a goal and an assist, then scored the only goal in the third round of a shootout in Edmonton's 5-4 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night. The Oilers are 2-10-3 in St. Louis since the 1999-2000 season, but are also 8-1 in shootouts this season.

Horcoff is 3-for-3 in shootouts after beating Hannu Toivenen for the winner to cap a do-it-all night. His 15th goal tied it at 1 in the first period, he helped tie it again when he set up Dustin Penner's second-period goal, and played a key role in killing a late 5-on-3 power play.

"I thought we had all four lines going and we showed a lot of adversity battling back," Horcoff said. "We came from behind four times and I think that's impressive."

Fernando Pisani's first goal of the season tied it at 4 with 4:08 to go for the Oilers, who also snapped a three-game losing streak.

Doug Weight had two goals and an assist for the Blues, whose six-game home winning streak ended. Weight has four goals in the last three games after failing to score in the first 25 games, but was one of three Blues to come up empty in the shootout against Mathieu Garon.

"I think he was in a little bit of a groove there," Weight said. "He made three good saves."

The Blues missed a chance to win it when Raffi Torres was called for interference and Jarret Stoll for boarding, both with 2:18 to go. Horcoff cleared the puck twice, tipping passes at the point, and Keith Tkachuk was thwarted twice in the final 20 seconds on a point-blank rebound shot that was wide and a deflection that was stuffed by Mathieu Garon.

"We've got to bury it," Weight said. "They did a good job of killing it but we've got to make sure we're not so regimented. I think we were looking for a certain play too much."

Rookie defenseman Erik Johnson assisted on three second-period goals for the Blues, who are 10-4 at home. Two nights after a 9-5 loss at Colorado, the most goals allowed by the franchise since 1994, the Blues played another wide-open game and squandered four one-goal leads.

Garon also stopped David Perron and Brad Boyes in the shootout, each player going for the glove side. Blues coach Andy Murray had saved Paul Kariya and Lee Stempniak for the last two rounds.

Toivenen stopped Sam Gagner on a backhand and Ales Hemsky shot high, but could only get a piece on the game-winner when Horcoff barreled in and snapped off a quick shot. Toivenen, who made 25 saves after giving up eight of the Avalanche's nine goals two days earlier, said he should have made the save on Horcoff, too.

"A guy comes that fast you know he's going to shoot," Toivenen said. "My mistake, and it cost us the game."

Prior to Tuesday, the Blues had not allowed a goal in the first or second periods in their last five home games.

Sheldon Souray scored in his first game back after missing 25 games because of a sprained left shoulder for the Oilers, who also got three assists from Hemsky. Dustin Penner also scored his eighth goal of the year.

David Backes' power-play goal at 6:39 of the first came on St. Louis' first shot, and was his first goal in six games since returning from a knee injury. Boyes also scored for the Blues.

Notes: Blues G Manny Legace, on IR with a knee injury, said he may require surgery after the season. ...Tkachuk was honored in a pre-game ceremony that included a video montage after becoming the 28th U.S.-born player to appear in 1,000 games earlier this month. ... Souray was whistled for a double-minor that partially short-circuited a double-minor against the Blues' Matt Walker early in the third, and also was called for interference at 7:36 of the third. ... Horcoff has a goal in the last four games and six goals and eight assists in the last eight. ... Pisani, a 14-goal scorer last season, missed the first 26 games because of colitis.
