NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -The New Jersey Devils are not only starting to win under Brent Sutter, they're finding ways to come from behind and get the job done.

Dainius Zubrus scored with 9:03 to play and the Devils beat Dallas 4-2 on Wednesday night, extending the their winning steak to five and ending the Stars' run at six.

"Our attitude is different. We believe we can win," said Devils goalie Martin Brodeur, who staked Dallas to an early 2-0 lead allowing two soft goals.

"We believe little hiccups during the game won't beat us. It showed how mentally stronger we're getting."

David Clarkson and Brian Gionta also scored as the Devils prevented the Stars from matching their franchise record for consecutive wins.

"We were down 2-0 after one," Gionta said. "The beginning of the year we would have packed it in. It shows the confidence level of the team. We know we can win. We know we can come from behind."

Stu Barnes and Jussi Jokinen scored for the Stars, who were frustrated by Brodeur on a 1:37 two-man advantage in the second period that turned the momentum in New Jersey's favor.

"We've been finding way to win," Barnes said. "We have won games where it wasn't the perfect formula but we found ways to win. Good teams do that. If we want to be a good team, we have to find that little extra bounce here or there or blocked shot here or there. We didn't get it done tonight."

The loss also ended Dallas' streak of collecting a point in eight straight games (6-0-2).

On the winner, Zubrus intercepted a pass by Mike Modano in the Devils' defensive zone and sent a pass to a breaking Jamie Langenbrunner on the right wing. As Langenbrunner carried the puck into the Dallas end, Zubrus charged up the ice, took a cross-ice pass and fired the puck into an open net before goalie Marty Turco could get across.

Zach Parise added an empty-net goal with 17 seconds to play.

Dallas has had three seven-game winning streak in franchise history, the last covering Nov. 22-Dec. 5, 1997.

Brodeur was outstanding in the second period, stopping at least six good scoring chances to allow the Devils to tie the game.

"The first period was not an indication of how we played," Brodeur said. "They got two bad-in goals on me. We definitely looked good after that. We didn't let that affect our game."

Gionta got the game-tying goal with 1:12 left in the period. Patrik Elias made a pass from the left circle and Gionta put it past Turco for his ninth goal of the season.

Clarkson had scored midway through the period with a wraparound that beat Turco between the pads.

After Clarkson's goal, Brodeur stopped Sergei Zubov with a hard slap shot and then turned aside three point-blank blasts by Modano in the two-man advantage.

Dallas had gone 10-for-26 in its last eight games on the power play.

"If we scored, it's a different game," Stars center Mike Ribeiro said. "After the 5-on-3 they came back and scored and took the momentum. That's the game."

Brodeur's heroics more than made up for his first period, which featured two of the easiest goals he has ever surrendered.

Barnes scored shorthand 9 seconds after Jeff Halpern was whistled for hooking. His shot beat Brodeur between his pads for his first goal of the season and the 250th of his 16-year career.

Jokinen got his ninth a little less than 3 minutes later on a soft shot from the left circle.

Notes: Devils F Jay Pandolfo left the game in the third period with a groin injury after falling hard into the boards. ... Devils defensemen Johnny Oduya and Andy Greene were left out of the lineup for the first time this season. ... The game was the only one between the teams in the regular season. ... Elias returned to lineup after missing two games because of the flu. ... Barnes' goal ended a 26-game drought and it came on his 23rd shot of the season. ... Dallas is 8-3-4 in November, with game left at Pittsburgh on Friday night.
