GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -Celebrations have been few and far between for the St. Louis Blues this season. D.J. King's goal Tuesday night was one of those moments.
"I've been getting some good bounces right now," said King, an enforcer who was scoreless in his first 24 games before recording an assist Monday in Dallas. "I was just going to the net and I got a good bounce."
The Blues' bench came alive when King scored, a move not appreciated by Coyotes goalie Curtis Joseph, who was talking to some Blues players as they left the ice.
"I know Curtis Joseph and the quality-type guy he is, he probably didn't like our guys celebrating like that after the fifth goal," Blues coach Andy Murray said. "But I don't think he realized it was his first career goal."
Petr Cajanek also had a goal and an assist and Radek Dvorak and Barret Jackman also scored for the Blues, who have won three of their past four games.
"It's a good feeling in here," Weight said. "We have a lot of belief and confidence in our lineup and it's showing."
Daniel Carcillo and Jeremy Roenick scored for the Coyotes, who have lost 13 of their past 15 games.
"The effort was not very good, very average," Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky said. "You have to play every shift until the very end. It is hard to play now. We understand that. But you have to play hard every night. You get paid until the end of the season and we have to be professional about it."
Weight gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead just 3:12 into the game when he pounced on a long rebound at the bottom of the right faceoff circle and fired the puck over Joseph.
Cajanek was credited with a goal at 6:53 of the first period when his pass from the left wing was deflected into the net by Coyotes defenseman Zbynek Michalek.
Carcillo cut the Blues lead to 2-1 when he redirected Keith Ballard's shot from the point past Jason Bacashihua. Jackman fired a shot from the top of the right circle over Joseph's glove to put St. Louis ahead 3-1.
"I know there's a lot of incentive just to pack it in," Carcillo said. "But guys like me are playing for jobs next year and other guys want to stick and around and be part of the winning that's going to happen here in the next few years."
Dvorak made it 4-1 at 9:12 when he tucked a shot just under the crossbar. Roenick pulled the Coyotes within 4-2 at 14:25 on a redirection off a Shane Doan shot from the high slot, but King added his goal just over two minutes later from the bottom of the left circle.
"They worked really hard," Owen Nolan said. "It's unfortunate we didn't match their intensity. We would have made a better game out of it."
Joseph, making his seventh start in nine games in pursuit of Terry Sawchuk on the career wins list, stopped 17 of 22 shots over the first two periods before he was replaced by Mikael Tellqvist at the start of the third.
Notes: Weight has scored 10 of his 16 goals since the trade deadline. ... Doan was playing in his 800th career game, all with the Winnipeg-Phoenix franchise. ... King, who has played in 25 games for St. Louis, had recorded his first career point on Monday at Dallas. ... Joseph, who has lost his past four starts, has been pulled twice in his past three starts. Joseph earned his 444th career win March 22 against Anaheim to move within three victories of Sawchuk for fourth place.
