TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -The Tampa Bay Lightning made the most of a late lucky bounce.

Dan Boyle forced overtime in the final minute of the third and Martin St. Louis scored with 2:35 left in overtime as the Lightning overcame a two-goal deficit to post a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday night.

St. Louis picked up a loose puck behind the net before skating into the right circle and scoring the winner on a wrist shot.

"It's tough playing 4-on-4 in overtime because you don't want to get caught along the boards on the outside," St. Louis said. "They go out the other way and it's usually an odd-man rush. I try to go in, dig it and get out of there as quick as possible."

Boyle scored his second power-play goal of the game with 20.5 seconds left in the game. Boyle's defected blue-line shot went in off Thrashers defenseman Andy Sutton, the second player the puck struck.

"As a team, as an individual, you need certain bounces like that," Boyle said. "Obviously, you've got to work for your bounces, that's for sure. Once in a while, you need something good to happen. When it does, it can turn a team around and individual players."

Jason Krog and Steve Rucchin scored for Atlanta. Kari Lehtonen had preserved a 2-1 lead when he made an outstretched pad save on Vincent Lecavalier during a breakaway with 9 minutes to play in the third.

"We leave with a point, but we left one on the table," said Atlanta coach Bob Hartley, who was looking for his 300th career NHL victory.

Krog, recalled from Chicago of the AHL before the game, made it 1-0 from in close at 2:37 of the first. He last played in the NHL during the 2003-04 season, recording six goals and 18 points in 80 games with Anaheim.

Rucchin put Atlanta ahead 2-0 at 2:36 of the second. Boyle cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal during a 5-on-3 power play with 11:17 left in the period.

Tampa Bay's Johan Hedberg stopped 23 shots. Lehtonen had 30 saves.

"Overall, it was a strong road game for us," Lehtonen said. "It's just a tough one to lose when you're so close."

The Lightning are 6-6-0 at home this season. They have won four times in 11 games when trailing after the second period.

"It's good to get a break, and we found a way to finish it, too," Tampa Bay coach John Tortorella said.

Notes: St. Louis also had an assist. He has three goals and seven points over the last three games. ... Atlanta placed D Steve McCarthy on injured reserve with an upper body injury. He has missed the past six games. ... Tampa Bay has played 12 home games this season, including three against Atlanta. ... Thrashers RW Scott Mellanby served his one-game suspension for an instigator penalty Wednesday. ... Atlanta C Glen Metropolit had an assist, and has three assists and six points during a five-game point streak.
