ST. LOUIS (AP) - Luc Robitaille has picked up lots of experience in scoring 667 NHL goals. He put it to good use against the St. Louis Blues.

The Los Angeles Kings forward tapped into his knowledge of goalie Patrick Lalime and took advantage, scoring the only goal in the shootout that gave the Kings a 2-1 victory Saturday night.

"I've seen this goalie a couple of times, and I knew he'd come out quick," Robitaille said. "I just took my time instead of going too fast. I knew on him I would rather take my time and give myself an extra option."

Mathieu Garon made 31 saves and stopped all three attempts in the shootout for the Kings. Garon earned his 27th win and sixth in seven decisions. It is the most wins for a Los Angeles goalie since Felix Potvin posted 31 in the 2001-02 season.

The Blues made him earn it.

"They're a totally different team than the last time we played them," Garon said. "They got those young guys who play really hard. They're not playing like a team that's not going to the playoffs."

Mark Parrish, in his second game with the Kings, scored his 25th goal - which leads Los Angeles.

Lalime, starting his second game since returning from the minors, made 25 saves. He wished he had another stab at Robitaille's shot.

"I got a piece of it and it just made it in there," Lalime said. "I didn't think he was going to shoot it from there."

St. Louis is winless against the Kings (0-3) and 1-12-2 in the second game of back-to-back matches this season.

Petr Cajanek had the only goal for St. Louis, but Blues coach Mike Kitchen wasn't complaining.

"Our effort was real solid and our team play was great," Kitchen said. "Everyone had a part in it. I thought we deserved a better fate in regulation."

Kings coach Andy Murray agreed.

"I think so much credit goes to the Blues and how they're playing right now," Murray said. "They're playing as hard as any team in the league."

Los Angeles was outshot 22-12 in the first two periods as the Blues dominated play. But the Kings came out strong to start the third. Parrish crashed the net and knocked in the rebound of Michael Cammalleri's shot at 1:52.

Cajanek answered for the Blues 2:37 later when he and Keith Tkachuk worked a give-and-go to perfection, with Cajanek tapping Tkachuk's pass by Garon.

Neither team was able to generate much offense in the first two periods. Tkachuk had the best chance when he was pulled down on a breakaway by Tim Gleason and awarded a penalty shot. Garon stopped Tkachuk's wrist shot to keep the game scoreless.

Notes: Lalime started for the first time at home since he allowed five goals in a 5-4 loss to the New York Rangers on Dec. 10, which led to his being placed on waivers. ... Los Angeles D Joe Corvo had his six-game scoring streak snapped. ... The Blues are 7-2-2 in February and March after going 12-30-8 during the first four months of the season.
