BOSTON (AP) - Martin Biron showed he can be sharp after a long layoff.
Biron, making his first start since Jan. 21, made 20 of his 40 saves in the third period.
"I can play whenever they want me to play. I told them that. I'm well rested," Biron said jokingly. "I looked up with about 5 minutes left and saw 38, 39 shots and had to blink for a second to make sure which side it was."
Biron has had a roller-coaster season, playing well after No. 1 starter Ryan Miller went down with an injury on Nov. 2. He had a solid December before Miller retuned.
"It starts with the goaltending," center Daniel Briere said. "Ryan Miller played well before he got hurt, then Martin Biron came in. Now, Biron comes back after not playing in a month. It's awesome."
Jochen Hecht had a goal and two assists, and Briere added a goal and an assist for the Sabres, who rallied from a 2-0 deficit.
Hecht, charging down the right wing, redirected Briere's pass into the net, making it 2-1 with 3:48 left in the opening period.
With the teams skating four on four, Briere scored the tying goal from in close after taking a pass from Hecht at 6:39 of the second.
Dumont then gave Buffalo the lead by one-timing a pass from Hecht in the right circle past goalie Andrew Raycroft's glove side.
Sergei Samsonov had a chance to tie it for Boston but his shot hit the crossbar from the right circle late in the period.
Biron stopped 31 shots in the final two periods, including three good ones in a sequence 5 minutes into the third. He denied Marco Sturm in front, Brad Boyes on the rebound and Sturm again on the ensuing faceoff.
"We certainly generated enough scoring chances, especially in the third period. On most nights, enough to win," Boston coach Mike Sullivan said. "Biron made some good stops, especially down the stretch."
Samsonov backhanded a shot into Biron at the end of a 2-on-1 break with just over 6 minutes left.
The Bruins built their lead in the opening 7:05 on goals by Sturm and Glen Murray. Sturm netted a power-play goal, backhanding in the rebound of Patrice Bergeron's shot at 3:41.
Murray made it 2-0 when he took Samsonov's feed in front and flicked a short shot between Biron's pads.
Raycroft, starting his second straight game after Tim Thomas started the previous 16, made 22 saves.
"It's tough when you play as well as they do and don't get a win," Raycroft said.
