EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) - Mike Morrison was just the man the Edmonton Oilers wanted in goal when the game went to a shootout.

Morrison stopped all three shooters to improve to 5-0 in shootouts, and Fernando Pisani scored the winner and had a goal and an assist in regulation to lead Edmonton past the Anaheim Mighty Ducks 6-5 on Monday night.

"You have to keep it simple and play big," Morrison said. "It was definitely a wild game."

Morrison stopped all eight shots he faced in regulation after replacing starter Jussi Markkanen in the third period. Markkanen allowed five goals on 32 shots.

Ryan Smyth scored twice, while Marc-Andre Bergeron and Jaroslav Spacek also tallied for Edmonton, which scored two power-play goals and tied Calgary for second place in the Northwest Division.

Pisani had the lone goal in the shootout and scored his first goal in regulation since Jan. 3.

"Just one of those things," said Pisani, who beat Jean-Sebastian Giguere with a backhander between the legs for the winner. "We'll just try and ride that momentum."

Chris Kunitz, Teemu Selanne and Corey Perry were stopped by Morrison in the shootout.

Andy McDonald, Corey Perry, Chris Kunitz, Todd Marchant and Scott Niedermayer scored for the Mighty Ducks in regulation.

Niedermayer, the Ducks' captain, is playing with a knee injury that might keep him off the Canadian roster at the Turin Olympics.

"I thought we deserved a better fate, but we didn't get it," Mighty Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "There is no use worrying about it. We can't change it."

The Oilers improved to 6-4 after their NHL-high 10th shootout.

"Mo came in, did the job, and shut the door," Oilers assistant coach Craig Simpson said. "They came at us pretty hard."

Smyth and Bergeron, on a power play, beat Giguere with Edmonton's first two shots of the game. Smyth's goal required a video review and took several minutes to confirm.

"I'm going to create havoc, and it worked tonight in our favor," Smyth said.

Smyth, with goals in four of his last five games, added Edmonton's second power-play goal to tie the game 3-3 in the second period after tipping Chris Pronger's point shot. The Oilers' defenseman finished with two assists for seven points in three game against Anaheim this season.

Spacek scored with a long shot from the point high over Giguere's glove in the third period. It was his first goal in his fourth game with Edmonton after coming over in a trade with Chicago.

The Mighty Ducks beat Jussi Markkanen twice on their first eight shots. Mike Peca coughed up a puck that McDonald pounced on, and Perry tipped a hard shot from the high slot.

McDonald, who has extended his career-high scoring streak to eight games, then set up Kunitz at 4:47 of the second period before Smyth answered at 12:13.

"When you are trading rushes like that, momentum can change pretty quickly," Anaheim right wing Joffrey Lupul said.

Marchant poked in a loose rebound in the third period.

"Anytime you can score against your former team it's a good feeling," said Marchant, who spent the first 10 years of his career in Edmonton. "It's even more special when you can score in their building."

Niedermayer gave the Mighty Ducks a brief lead before Pisani had his first goal since Jan. 3 to tie the game 5-5.

Georges Laraque went over 800 career penalty minutes following a first-period fight with Todd Fedoruk.

Edmonton defenseman Steve Staios recorded his 100th assist on Pisani's goal, and Peca sustained a right hip flexor strain and didn't play in the third period.

Notes: The Oilers placed No. 3 goalie Ty Conklin on waivers before the game. ... Edmonton captain Jason Smith returned after sitting out one game with a bruised toe. ... Fans were given a life-size poster of the 6-foot-6 Pronger.
