PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Peter Forsberg tried to downplay his return to the lineup.
The Pittsburgh Penguins had a much different feeling.
Forsberg won a faceoff that led to Mike Knuble's go-ahead goal with 2:05 left and Antero Niittymaki stopped 24 shots to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 4-2 victory over Pittsburgh on Monday night, the Penguins' 10th straight loss.
With the Flyers seemingly headed toward their 17th overtime game, Forsberg won a faceoff in the offensive zone, and Derian Hatcher took a wrist shot. Knuble redirected the puck with his stick blade from the slot past Marc-Andre Fleury for his 22nd goal and another dramatic Philadelphia victory.
``The only thing I did all day was win a faceoff at the end,'' said Forsberg, who missed two games because of an abdominal muscle strain. ``We shouldn't keep it that close after going up 2-0.''
Michal Handzus, Petr Nedved and Simon Gagne also scored for the Atlantic Division-leading Flyers, who beat the lowly Penguins for the second time in three days. The Flyers snapped a four-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday, and they completed the home-and-home sweep with their first win at the Wachovia Center since Dec. 22.
``We've struggled at home, so this was really good for our confidence,'' Niittymaki said.
The Penguins' 10-game losing streak is one worse than the 0-4-5 mark they opened the season with and they've been held to two goals or less in seven of the last eight games. Pittsburgh hasn't forced an overtime in any of the 10 losses.
``It's always tough to lose when you're that close,'' said center Sidney Crosby, who had his 31st assist. ``We played two pretty good hockey games. But hanging our heads and getting frustrated over it is not going to help us in the next game or the long run.''
Gagne scored an empty-net goal with 5 seconds left, his 33rd of the season. Gagne was hit hard with the puck earlier in the period, but said he was fine.
Not that the Penguins didn't make it interesting. Michel Ouellet's 12th goal of the season with 7:42 remaining tied the game. It was a power-play goal after Randy Jones was called for delay of game.
Handzus scored his eighth goal of the season with 45.5 seconds left in the first period, knocking in a loose puck for a 1-0 lead. The puck hit off Fleury's mask and Handzus was all alone to put it in.
Fleury had 32 saves.
Nedved scored his first goal for the Flyers since he was acquired in a trade with Phoenix on Friday. With Brooks Orpik in the penalty box for hooking, Nedved took advantage with his third goal of the season for a 2-0 lead.
``It always helps when you get to a new team and you get on the board and help out,'' Nedved said.
Former Flyer Mark Recchi added his 14th goal in second period to make it 2-1. Still, it wasn't enough to help the Penguins avoid their 11th loss in the last 12 games.
Notes: The Flyers traded D Jon Sim to Florida on Monday for a sixth-round pick in the 2007 draft. Sim had seven goals and seven assists for 14 points and 28 penalty minutes in 39 games with the Flyers this season. ... The Flyers played without defensemen Joni Pitkanen and Kim Johnsson. Pitkanen, who had been out since Dec. 6 after having abdominal surgery for a sports hernia, briefly played in Saturday's win. ... Gagne tied his career high of 33 goals set in 2001-02.
