PHILADELPHIA (AP) - One man up or one down, the Edmonton Oilers were superb on special teams.

Ethan Moreau scored two short-handed goals, leading the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 victory over the undermanned Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.

Jarret Stoll also scored for the Oilers, who won for the fifth time in seven games.

"The story was Ethan," Oilers coach Craig MacTavish said. "He comes to work every day. He's a professional in every sense of the word. He won the game for us with a couple great individual efforts on the penalty-kill."

Branko Radivojevic and Sami Kapanen had goals for Philadelphia, which was missing several key players.

The Flyers are without leading scorer Peter Forsberg (groin), captain Keith Primeau (concussion), starting goaltender Robert Esche (groin) and top defensemen Eric Desjardins (shoulder) and Joni Pitkanen (sports hernia).

"It's definitely tough with Rico (Desjardins) out and Peter," Flyers center Jeff Carter said. "Guys got to step up. Obviously, they're a part of our special teams, so as a whole, everybody needs to get things back on track."

Stoll backhanded a shot past goalie Antero Niittymaki during a power play to give Edmonton a 2-1 lead in the second period.

Stoll then set up Moreau's second short-handed goal with a long, clearing pass. Moreau outraced two Flyers to get the puck, skated in and slipped a shot past Niittymaki for his seventh goal to make it 3-1 in the second.

"You look for a good spot on the ice and you jump on it," Moreau said. "We've been getting a lot of chances short-handed and we're fortunate they finally went in."

With Jason Smith in the penalty box for slashing, Moreau scored in the first. He picked up a loose puck near center ice, broke in and snapped a wrister that bounced off Niittymaki and hit the post, before Moreau tapped it in.

Philadelphia hadn't allowed a short-handed goal in its first 26 games. Calgary is the only remaining NHL team not to allow one this season.

"We pressure hard on our penalty-kill," Moreau said. "Everything is a result of our pressure. It forces them to make mistakes."

Radivojevic tied it at 1 early in the second period with a slap shot from the slot. Kapanen wristed a shot from the right circle past goalie Mike Morrison on a power play in the third period to cut it to 3-2.

The Flyers had a two-man advantage for two minutes in the second period, but couldn't score. They also were on the power play for the final 1:16, but couldn't tie it.

Overall, Edmonton killed seven of eight penalties, outscoring the Flyers 2-1 on Philadelphia's power-play opportunities.

"We didn't shoot the puck from the point. We had lanes. We had three guys standing in front. We should've played the shot off the goaltender," Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We had new personnel there and not a lot of days to work on it. We'll get better at it, but we didn't shoot the puck."

Notes: The Oilers are 4-1-1 in Philadelphia since the 1998-99 season. ... Edmonton played its second of 10 against Eastern Conference opponents, with all the games being played between Dec. 3 and Jan. 16. ... The Flyers hadn't allowed a short-handed goal since Toronto's Gary Roberts scored one on March 18, 2004. They allowed just three short-handed goals the entire 2003-04 season. ... Niittymaki assisted on Kapanen's goal. ... The Oilers beat the Flyers twice in the Stanley Cup finals in the 1980s.
