TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - The Pittsburgh Penguins had a bad weekend in Florida.
Fredrik Modin scored two power-play goals and John Grahame stopped 20 shots in the Tampa Bay Lightning's 4-1 victory over the Penguins on Sunday.
Not only did Pittsburgh drop two games in three days, they played Sunday without captain Mario Lemieux and with sore rookie center Sidney Crosby.
Lemieux, the player-owner of the Penguins, didn't play because of a stomach virus. He had just one assist in the previous three games after sitting out on Nov. 16 at Philadelphia with a similar ailment.
``When people look at him, sometimes they look at him only as a player,'' Pittsburgh coach Eddie Olczyk said. ``The guy has got a lot on his plate ... arena situations, ownership stuff, leading a team. He's being counted on (for) a lot of things. The guy has a lot on his mind.''
Crosby was in the lineup two days after bruising his left foot. He was struck by a shot during the third period of the Penguins' 6-3 loss Friday night against Florida, in which the Panthers snapped a 12-game losing streak.
``It's pretty sore, but it didn't hinder me that much,'' Crosby said. ``Toward the end of the second, it started to get pretty sore. When you're out there skating, you don't think about it too much.''
Rob DiMaio and Brad Richards also scored for the defending Stanley Cup champions, who rebounded from Friday's 8-2 loss to New Jersey. The Lightning were 3-for-9 on the power play.
Lightning coach John Tortorella, however, was not pleased with his team's play in the first.
``John Grahame was the reason why we won the hockey game,'' Tortorella said. ``We could have been down by two or three goals at the end of that first period the way we came out and played. After getting spanked like we did against Jersey and show up and start the game like we did against Pittsburgh ... there's no excuse why.''
Pittsburgh failed to score on its two power plays. Maxime Talbot netted a short-handed goal with 1:13 left to spoil Grahame's shutout bid.
``We were guilty of the penalties we took,'' Crosby said. ``But at the same time I thought there was a couple of times where we drove the net and we probably could have drew one. I don't think they missed the blatant calls.''
Richards put the Lightning up 1-0 when he redirected Nolan Pratt's shot from the point at 7:55 of the first. He has four goals and 12 points during a 10-game point streak.
Grahame extended his right pad to stop Matt Murley on a short-handed penalty shot with 10:37 left in the first. He improved to 8-1-1 against Pittsburgh.
Crosby had two good scoring chances and a hit during the first period. He had scored six times in his previous five games.
Tampa Bay had the first five power plays, including three during the opening seven minutes of the second period that resulted in two goals and an 11-0 shot advantage. Power-play goals by DiMaio, at 4:58, and Modin, at 6:51, made it 3-0.
The Lightning outshot Pittsburgh 18-3 in the second.
``It was obviously a big game for us,'' Modin said. ``We just want to forget about New Jersey. We were a little shaky in the first period. Johnny made some good saves for us, kept us in the game and we managed to get our game back on track.''
Modin scored his second of the game at 5:23 of the third.
Penguins goalie Jocelyn Thibault made 32 saves.
Notes: The Lightning are 9-1-1 in their last 11 home games against Pittsburgh. ... Penguins LW John LeClair hasn't scored a goal in eight games. RW Mark Recchi has one goal in the last 10. ...
