BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Bruins showed that their power-play success against Pittsburgh last month wasn't a fluke.

Jiri Slegr scored two power-play goals in a 35-second span in the first period and Patrice Bergeron had a spectacular end-to-end rush for another power-play goal in the second, leading the Bruins to a 6-3 victory over the Penguins on Saturday night.

Boston is 4-0-4 in its last eight games. The Penguins had their season-best, two-game winning streak snapped.

Joe Thornton had two goals, and Nick Boynton also scored for Boston. Mark Recchi scored two goals and Lasse Pirjeta added a goal for the Penguins.

The Bruins have 11 power-play goals at home this season, eight against Pittsburgh. They had four in the second period of a 6-3 win on Oct. 22.

``Very similar,'' Thornton said of the two home meetings against the Penguins. ``We had our chances 5-on-3 and we capitalized. We had the chances against them last time we played them. We had a good power play.''

In the Bruins' three games against Pittsburgh this season, they have scored 6.3 goals per game; compared to 2.9 in the rest.

With Boston leading 4-1, Bergeron had the goal of night, and maybe Boston's best this season. After collecting a loose puck in his own end, he skated up the middle, pushed the puck between defenseman Ryan Whitney's legs, collected it near the top of the crease and slipped a shot past Caron for an unassisted score.

``I got a little lucky with the D-man, but got it back,'' said Bergeron, who watched the replay of his goal on the video board as the crowd roared.

``Unbelievable,'' Thornton said. ``One against three. He really split the defense. It was a great goal.''

The Penguins were 1-for 10 on the power play, with Recchi scoring late in the first period.

The Penguins started the season 0-4-5 before turning things around lately.

``We went right back to the way we were five games ago,'' Recchi said. ``We didn't compete. We weren't ready to play right from the start. They were and it showed.''

The Bruins jumped ahead 1-0 on Boynton's shot from the point 28 seconds into the game. With Boston skating with a 5-on-3 advantage, Slegr then scored twice in a 35-second span to make it 3-0. The first came from near the blue line and beat goalie Sebastein Caron to the top left corner. Slegr's next shot was almost identical, but came from the right point and again slipped inside the upper left corner.

``We were out of sync for whatever reason,'' Pittsburgh coach Eddie Olczyk said. ``They got that goal right off the bat.''

Recchi's power-play goal cut it to 3-1 late in the opening period, but the Bruins broke it open in the second.

Thornton scored into an empty net when the puck caromed out front after Caron was attempting to make a play behind the net, making 4-1 at 7:29 of the second.

Thornton had a power-play goal 7:31 into the third

Notes Pittsburgh's Mario Lemieux was given an unsportsmanlike conduct minor after being called for interference in the first period. ... Caron was pulled after Bergeron's goal. ... Boston defenseman Jay Leach, recalled from Providence of the AHL earlier in the day, played his first NHL game.
