CHICAGO (AP) _ Chicago goalie Michael Leighton saved his best for overtime.
Leighton made 39 saves _ nine in the extra period _ to help the Blackhawks hold on for a 2-2 tie with the Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday.
``Leights was the story of the game,'' Chicago coach Brian Sutter said. ``The overtime said it all.''
Among his saves in overtime, Leighton made two point-blank saves while the Coyotes were on a power play, then he stopped a two-on-none break.
With 2:13 left in the extra period, Leighton made a pad save on Tyson Nash after he and Brad Ference skated in alone. The Coyotes' rush occurred after Chicago's Matt Keith made a bad pass in the Phoenix zone and defensemen Bryan Berard and Deron Quint collided.
``It's obvious they're going to pass it a few times,'' Leighton said. ``So it's a little bit easier to read. He (Ference) kind of showed pass one more time, so I just cheated to the one side.''
Nash, who has just three goals and three assists this season, found himself in an unusual situation.
``That's the first time I think I've been out there in overtime so it was pretty exciting,'' Nash said. ``I don't know if you'd want those two guys (Nash and Ference) out there on a two-on-0, but I thought the goalie made a great save. I've got to get that (shot) up.''
Mike Comrie's power-play goal midway through the third period allowed Phoenix to rally from a 2-0 deficit and set up overtime.
Dan Cleary had a goal and an assist for the Coyotes, whose winless streak reached 15 games (0-8-4-3). Phoenix goalie Brian Boucher blocked 32 shots.
Tyler Arnason and Eric Daze each had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, 2-6-3-1 in their last 12 games.
Daze opened the scoring 7:53 into the first period with a power-play goal. While skating through the slot, he deflected in Jim Vandermeer's shot from the left point.
Aranson gave Chicago a 2-0 lead at 5:02 of the second. Boucher blocked Tuumo Ruutu's shot from the edge of the crease, but the rebound popped straight up. When it landed, Arnason swatted it while being knocked to the ice.
Cleary's short-handed goal midway through the second cut it to 2-1. Cleary was covered in the crease with his back to the net when Shane Doan's centering pass struck the back of his skate and deflected in.
Comrie poked the puck into a half-empty net after Leighton made a save on Paul Mara's shot from the slot. The rebound went to Cleary, who fed a cross-ice pass to Comrie.
