DETROIT (AP) -- Brendan Shanahan beat the Anaheim Mighty Ducks with a milestone goal.
Shanahan scored his 550th NHL goal Saturday night, breaking a tie early in the third period in the Detroit Red Wings' 3-1 victory over the Mighty Ducks.
Shanahan fired a wrist shot from inside the left circle past goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere 1:54 into the third period. Ray Whitney set up the goal with a pass from behind the net.
"Classic great hands shot," Red Wings coach Dave Lewis said. "Great pass from Whitney and a quick shot, right over the pad. Not a fluke goal at all."
Shanahan is 18th on the career goals list, six goals behind Hall of Famer Johnny Bucyk for 17th.
Andy McDonald scored for Anaheim, and Giguere stopped 38 shots.
Maltby made it 3-1 with 3:21 left.
"When we turned the puck over, they scored," Ducks coach Mike Babcock said.
Anaheim tied it at 1 with 5:30 remaining in the second period when McDonald put a loose puck past Legace after a mixup between Shanahan and Legace.
"I went to poke it away," Legace said. "I saw two Ducks and I tried to go down and knock it away and then it was rattling around in my pads and in the net."
Holmstrom opened the scoring with 6:44 left in the first period, beating Giguere high on the glove side.
"Overall, you've got to play 60 minutes," said Anaheim's Sergei Fedorov, a former Detroit star. "We gave up a couple quick chances against a team like that, it's hard to win. Everything else was fine."
