ST. LOUIS (AP) -- When overtime begins, St. Louis goalie Chris Osgood knows the action will pick up.

Osgood stopped 24 shots for the St. Louis Blues, and Sean Burke of the Phoenix Coyotes made 30 saves in a 1-1 tie Saturday night. Shane Doan scored a short-handed goal 5:59 in, and Pavol Demitra tied it with a power-play goal with 6:02 left in the second period.

Both teams had odd-man rushes in overtime, but neither goalie buckled.

"It was pretty tame up until then," Osgood said. "You know both teams are going to go for it."

Burke said he knew the Blues would come at him.

"This is a team, you know they have some very skilled players and you have to be very sharp," Burke said. "I had to play confident and give us a chance."

St. Louis coach Joel Quenneville said the goalies were the stars of the game.

"I thought both goalies were terrific," Quenneville said.

In overtime, St. Louis is 6-1-3 while Phoenix is 3-1-10. The Blues' lone loss in the extra session was to Phoenix.

The Blues (20-6-3-1) are undefeated in December at 7-0-2. Two of their losses this season have come to Phoenix.

"They've got a good team," Osgood said. "They have a lot of guys who are talented and fast and they have a good goalie. Their defense is young and mean. We haven't beaten them yet this year."

A four-minute penalty for high-sticking on Doan at 11:31 gave the Blues a long power play. St. Louis took five shots on goal but could not dent Burke.

"We should have scored on that power play," Blues forward Dallas Drake said. "We had a couple of chances. We just didn't put it in."

Then, Phoenix got a four-minute power play when Mark Rycroft was called for high-sticking. Phoenix had one shot during the man advantage.

"You don't see too much of that," Coyotes coach Bob Francis said of the penalties. "If it's going to occur, you would like to have it first because killing a penalty saps your energy and we use a lot of guys on both units."

Doan scored when his shot from the slot hit the left post and then hit Osgood before bouncing in. It was the first short-handed goal allowed by St. Louis at home since Feb. 20 against Vancouver. Doan is off to the best start of his career with 13 goals and 19 assists in 32 games.

The Blues tied it about 10 minutes after they had a goal by Mike Danton disallowed because the whistle blew before the puck went in the net.

"I don't understand why they can't review the goal, but it's something to do with the referee couldn't see it," Danton said. "It was clear as day to me. The puck went in before the whistle sounded."

But St. Louis broke through when Demitra took a cross-ice pass from Doug Weight and one-timed the puck from the right circle. The Blues have scored six power-play goals in their last seven home games.

Phoenix had five power-play chances but did not convert any of them. St. Louis has allowed only four power-play goals in their last 10 games, killing 39 of 43 penalties. In their last 11 home games, the Blues have given up only three power-play goals.

"We played hard but we're just snake-bitten," Osgood said. "Burke played a good game for them. I would have liked to have won."
