Devils face Lightning hoping to end losing streak
Tampa Bay Lightning vs. New Jersey Devils

LIGHTNING (20-10-3) at DEVILS (11-16-6)

Season series: The New Jersey Devils defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Oct. 14 at Amalie Arena. Travis Zajac and Mike Cammalleri scored for the Devils, who were backed by Cory Schneider's 26 saves. Evgeni Nabokov made 25 saves for the Lightning. Since that game the Lightning have gone 18-9-2 while the Devils are 8-16-6.

Lightning team scope: The Lightning haven't played since Tuesday, when they snapped a two-game losing streak with a 3-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 23 saves in his NHL debut. Tyler Johnson has been red-hot with four points in his past three games and 12 points in his past 11, but he sat out practice Thursday because of a stomach bug. His status for the game Friday is still not determined. Defenseman Radko Gudas and forward Ondrej Palat were optimistic Thursday that they would play in New Jersey. Palat has missed the past four games with a lower-body injury. Gudas has missed three straight games with an illness. Goalie Ben Bishop (upper-body injury) is skating, but it's unlikely he will play Friday against New Jersey or Saturday against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.

Devils team scope: New Jersey has lost five in a row (0-3-2) and is 3-9-4 with 30 goals in its past 16 games since a two-game winning streak (Nov. 11-14). The Devils have a League-low three wins and 10 points on home ice this season. They lost 2-0 to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday despite holding a 34-16 advantage in shots on goal and a 58-25 advantage in total shot attempts. The Devils were 0-for-5 on the power play against Ottawa after scoring a power-play goal in three straight games and going 6-for-14 in their previous seven. Rookie defenseman Damon Severson will be out of the lineup for the next four-to-five weeks with a hairline fracture in his left ankle. Mike Cammalleri (lower body) and Dainius Zubrus (left leg lacerations) skated on their own Thursday and are day-to-day. Zubrus was placed on injured reserve Thursday, but it's retroactive to Dec. 8 so he can play Friday if he's capable.
