Stars continue playoff push by hosting Flames
Calgary Flames vs. Dallas Stars

FLAMES (26-33-7) at STARS (32-23-10)

TV: SNET-W, SNET-CGY, FS-SW

Last 10: Calgary 5-5-0; Stars 7-2-1

Season series: The Dallas Stars are going for a sweep of the Calgary Flames, having already won 5-1 and 7-3. Tyler Seguin had four goals and an assist in the latter game.

Big story: The Stars, fighting for a wild-card berth in the Western Conference, will be playing at home for the first time since forward Rich Peverley collapsed on the bench Monday at the Columbus Blue Jackets and was put on season-ending injured reserve. Peverley was released from the hospital Wednesday night and visited his teammates Thursday. He is scheduled to undergo a heart procedure at some point soon at the Cleveland Clinic.

Team Scope:

Flames: Calgary used a four-goal first period to rout the Anaheim Ducks 7-2 on Wednesday. Up next are games with the Stars and Phoenix Coyotes, teams competing for the second wild-card spot in the West.

"It's very important because Dallas and Phoenix are right now battling for the final spot in our conference for the playoffs, so those two teams will be at their best," coach Bob Hartley said. "Those are the kinds of games we want to play."

Although they may be out of the playoff picture, forward Mikael Backlund, who had three points Wednesday, noted the games are still important to the Flames.

"We just have to come out the same way we did [Wednesday]," Backlund said after the win. "Just play with the same energy, passion, same team effort and just got to be real solid defensively and offensively, keep shooting pucks and things will happen for us."

Stars: Since starting the calendar year 0-6-0, the Stars are 12-5-3, having climbed back into the playoff picture. They had an emotional road win Tuesday, one day after Peverley collapsed, beating the League-leadingSt. Louis Blues 3-2 in overtime.

Peverley showed up during practice Thursday, much to the delight of his teammates.

"It made me feel a lot better. Just to see him today around," said forward Alex Chiasson, who missed the game Tuesday because he was so shaken up by the incident. "He walked in the gym there and you could see all the guys really happy to see him. We are just happy he is healthy. … The only thing I could ask for is to see Pevs [Thursday] and it put a smile on my face this morning. … [Friday] I'm going to be ready to go."

Chiasson said the Stars need to keep playing the way they've been playing in recent weeks.

"I think we are right there. These are the games you want to play. They are playoff atmosphere," Chiasson said. "This is what brings the best out in all players."

Who's hot: Flames defenseman Mark Giordano has two goals and nine points in seven games. … Stars forward Jamie Benn has a three-game goal scoring streak and 12 points in his past eight games. Seguin has points in 12 of his past 15 games (eight goals, 14 assists).

Injury report: The Flames were missing forwards Jiri Hudler (lower body) and Markus Granlund (upper body) on Wednesday. Goalie Karri Ramo (lower body) is on injured reserve. Forwards Matt Stajan (personal) and David Jones (shoulder) and defenseman Dennis Wideman (upper body) are all out. … Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen (concussion) faced shots on Friday and could return Sunday if he's cleared; centers Cody Eakin (lower body) and Shawn Horcoff (upper body) are also out.
