Bruins, Rangers meet for final time this season
Boston Bruins vs. New York Rangers

BRUINS (37-17-5) at RANGERS (33-25-3)

TV: NBCSN, TSN2, RDS2

Last 10: Boston 6-2-2; New York 6-4-0

Season series: This is the third and final game this season between the Boston Bruins and New York Rangers. Boston won the first two, each by one goal, during a 10-day span back in November.

Big story: It's the second game in as many days for each team, and each is coming off a loss on Saturday. The Rangers return home after falling short against the Philadelphia Flyers, while the Bruins hit the road after losing to the Washington Capitals at TD Garden.

Boston's lead atop the Atlantic Division was trimmed to six points after the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Dallas Stars. The Rangers, who are in the second place in the Metropolitan Division, are one point ahead of Philadelphia.

Team Scope:

Bruins: Boston is 0-1-1 since the Olympic break after a 4-2 loss to the Washington Capitals at TD Garden on Saturday. It was the Bruins' first regulation defeat in six games (3-1-2), but they've allowed nine goals in these past two games.

"I think at this point in time the areas that I guess we haven't been as good at need to be addressed because that's how we want to be as a team. We want to be held accountable to the areas that we didn't do as well tonight as I think we would like to," Bruins center Gregory Campbell said. "I think there were some positives in the game, but I mean it's another loss. We really don't like to lose two games in a row. At this point in time, you're going to get best from every team. That team is fighting for a playoff spot. It's just some details in the game that as a team we make a point to focus on."

Rangers: New York is still second in the Metropolitan Division, but the Rangers' lead was reduced to one point after their loss to the third-place Flyers. Each team has 21 games remaining.

The Flyers scored twice in a 1:06 span in the first period after killing off two power plays in the first six minutes, and Wayne Simmonds broke a 2-2 with a power-play goal late in the second period.

"We had a couple chances on the power play there that we don't score on, and I think anytime as a team if you get two kills pretty early on in the game you're going to grab the momentum," New York captain Ryan Callahan said. "Our first period wasn't where it needed to be, and it seems like we were kind of playing catch-up after that."

Who's hot: Bruins forward Reilly Smith has a three-point streak (four assists) and center Patrice Bergeron has three goals and an assist in his past three games. … Rangers center Derick Brassard has an eight-game point streak (five goals, five assists). Center Derek Stepan has 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in his past 12 games.

Injury report: The Bruins are missing defensemen Adam McQuaid (leg) and Dennis Seidenberg (season-ending knee injury). … The Rangers are without forward Mats Zuccarello (broken hand).
