Flames host Sharks in search of fourth win in row
San Jose Sharks vs. Calgary Flames

SHARKS (34-14-6) at FLAMES (19-27-7)

TV: SNET-W, CSN-CA

Last 10: San Jose 7-3-0; Calgary 4-5-1

Season series: This is the fourth of five games. The San Jose Sharks have won all three games against the Calgary Flames, with Joe Pavelski leading the way with four goals and three assists in the victories.

Big story: The Flames have played some streaky hockey of late. Calgary has won a season-high three straight -- all at home -- after dropping a franchise-record seven in a row at Scotiabank Saddledome. They'll look to extend their winning streak to four when they host the suddenly offensively challenged Sharks.

Team Scope:

Sharks: Often-dominant San Jose has sputtered over the past 10 days. Though they're sixth in the NHL in goals (157), the Sharks' offense has completely disappeared. They have been blanked in two straight games -- the latest a 3-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers, a game that featured an NHL-record 59 saves in a 60-minute shutout by goalie Ben Scrivens - and have scored seven goals in the past five.

"Hats off to the goaltender. He was tremendous," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said of Scrivens. "Probably first, second and third star. If he wasn't, he deserved it. Heck of a performance. In all my years in the League, I don't think I've seen that, so give him credit."

The Sharks were also shut out 1-0 in a 23-save performance Monday night by Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick.

San Jose will look to avoid being swept on their two-game Alberta road trip when they close out their pre-Olympic road schedule against Calgary, against whom they've scored 12 goals in three wins.

Flames: The resilient Flames coughed up a two-goal lead in the second period to the defending Stanley Cup champions before pulling out a 5-4 overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.

It was the second straight game the Flames won despite pulling their starting goaltender.

Reto Berra was relieved after 40 minutes by Karri Ramo, who stopped all nine shots he faced against the Blackhawks to earn the win. It was the opposite case last Friday, when Berra replaced Ramo against the Nashville Predators in the second period. Berra made 12 saves on 13 shots before earning a 5-4 win in a shootout.

"There have been so many times where we haven't supported our goalies enough," center Joe Colborne told the team's website. "It's nice to return the favor a little bit and get them some goal support."

Prior to the three-game winning streak, the Flames had won three of their past 14 games.

Who's hot: Pavelski had a five-game point streak (seven goals, three assists) before the back-to-back shutout losses for the Sharks. … Flames defenseman Mark Giordano is on a career-high seven-game point streak, and forward Mikael Backlund has three goals and four points in his past two games.

Injury report: San Jose defenseman Scott Hannan (upper body) and forward Marty Havlat (lower body) returned Wednesday. Forwards Logan Couture (hand), Tomas Hertl (knee), Adam Burish (lower body) and Raffi Torres (knee) remain on injured reserve. …Calgary forward Mike Cammalleri (concussion) was expected to return against the Sharks after missing eight games, but the decision was made to hold him out until Saturday. Curtis Glencross (ankle) remains out.
