SENATORS (19-18-8) at PREDATORS (19-20-6)
Last 10: Ottawa 5-3-2; Nashville 3-4-3
Season series: This is the first of two games between the Ottawa Senators and Nashville Predators, who will meet again on March 10 in Ottawa. The Senators used a pair of goals from both Jason Spezza and Chris Phillips in a 4-3 victory during their last game in 2012.
Big story: Ottawa continues a four-game road trip in Nashville before traveling to face the Minnesota Wild. The Senators are in a stretch in which they play 11 of 14 games away from home. Nashville is in the midst of five straight games at home.
Senators: Ottawa had a four-game winning streak snapped with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday. After trailing 2-0, the Senators scored the next three goals but allowed a late third period goal before a goal 33 seconds into overtime.
"We were down 1-0 in the game. To come back and get up 3-2 and lose it … it's a tough loss but it's a huge point for us," forward Clarke MacArthur said after practice on Thursday. He had a goal and an assist in the loss.
It was the Senators' eighth loss after regulation this season, and coach Paul MacLean said the team needed to avoid similar letdowns in the future.
"We did a lot of good things [Wednesday]. For 15 minutes of the third period, we had the scoring chances at five or six to one for us … and then we get to the last timeout and all of a sudden, it all goes for naught," MacLean said after practice.
Predators: Nashville had leads of 2-0 and 3-2 against the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, but allowed four goals in the second period on 18 shots in what eventually became a 4-3 defeat. The Predators have now lost four of five games.
Shea Weber noted that they can't let one loss snowball into multiple losses as they try to improve their positioning in the Western Conference.
"We got back-to-back games here and we gotta try to get some points," Weber said after the game. "Try to get points and climb the ladder."
Who's hot: Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson has four assists in four games. MacArthur has a four-game goal-scoring streak. … Weber has one goal and seven points in five games for the Predators.
Injury report: Forward Chris Neil (hamstring) has missed the past three games for the Senators. ... Goalie Pekka Rinne (hip) is on IR for the Predators. Forward Patric Hornqvist (lower body) did not play Thursday.
