Boudreau returns to Washington with Ducks
Anaheim Ducks vs. Washington Capitals

DUCKS (26-7-5) at CAPITALS (19-13-4)

TV: PRIME, CSN-DC

Last 10: Anaheim 8-0-2; Washington 6-2-2

Season series: This will be the first of two games between the Anaheim Ducks and Washington Capitals, and the first since Nov. 1, 2011, when the Capitals defeated the Ducks 5-4 in overtime at Verizon Center.

Big story: Monday will mark Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau's first return to Washington since being dismissed by the Capitals in Nov. 2011. He compiled a regular-season record of 201-88-40 over parts of five seasons, leading the Capitals to four Southeast Division titles.

Team Scope:

Ducks: Despite trailing the New York Islanders 3-1 entering the third period Saturday, the high-flying Ducks battled back, scoring four unanswered goals to win 5-3 and sealing their team-record eighth straight victory.

Anaheim will enter its final road game against an Eastern Conference opponent as the NHL's top team with 57 points.

"It was big," said Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, who had a hat trick and four points. "Our group did a great job keeping our composure throughout this game. We were able to come back and win the third period like we wanted to."

Capitals: Washington's inconsistent season continued Saturday, following a 4-2 victory against the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday with a 5-4 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils. The Capitals, who were 11-0-1 when leading after two periods, blew two separate two-goal leads, including one with less than 12 minutes remaining in the regulation.

"We got a point out of it," Capitals left wing Jason Chimera said of the loss. "It's not like it's the end of the world. … Three out of four points on the weekend is not too bad, so we have to look at it positively. Obviously it was disappointing, but we have to move on and look at the bright spots."

Who's hot: Getzlaf has three four-point games, joining Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin as the only players in the League with at least three such games so far.

Both Ducks goaltenders are playing exceptionally well; Jonas Hiller has won six straight starts, allowing 11 goals over that span, while Frederik Andersen is the third goaltender in League history to record nine or more wins in his first 10 games … Alex Ovechkin has a goal in four straight games and five of his past six; he became the first player since Devils forward Jaromir Jagr in 1995-96 and 1996-97 to be the first to reach 30 goals in consecutive seasons Saturday.

Injury report: Anaheim is without defensemen Luca Sbisa (right hand) and Sheldon Souray (wrist) as well as goaltender Viktor Fasth (muscle inflammation in lower body). … Forward Brooks Laich (groin) is set to return to the lineup; forward Michael Latta (lower body) and defenseman Jack Hillen (fractured tibial plateau) are out.
