ISLANDERS (8-17-5) at DUCKS (20-7-5)
TV: MSG PLUS, FS-W
Last 10: New York 1-7-2; Anaheim 5-2-3
Big story: The Islanders are on a nine-game winless streak (0-7-2) following a 3-0 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday. It’s their longest skid since going 0-11-3 Oct. 23-Nov. 24, 2010.
“I know what our record is, but it's not like we're getting dominated in these games. If we're not going to score any goals, it's going to be tough for us,” coach Jack Capuano said.
Islanders: New York hasn't won since a 5-4 shootout victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Nov. 16. They have also lost nine straight road games, the last road win coming Nov. 1 against the Ottawa Senators.
“It doesn’t get any easier,” Capuano told the Islanders' website. “[The Ducks are] a big team, they’re solid, good goaltending. But we’ve got to find a way to score some goals.”
The Islanders had 16 shots and went 0-for-4 on the power play Saturday in Los Angeles.
"We played well for 30 minutes and then kind of shot ourselves in the foot a little bit, but we were right in the game. We've got to find a way to win because this is unacceptable," forward Kyle Okposo said.
Ducks: Anaheim had an impressive 5-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday during which it raced out to an early 3-0 lead. The Ducks defeated the Chicago Blackhawks and Blues on consecutive nights, both on the road. That followed up shootout losses to the San Jose Sharks and Kings.
“We played four of the best teams and came out with six points. I think right now everybody is pretty happy,” said center Nick Bonino, who had a goal and an assist in the win against the Blues.
Saturday marked Anaheim’s 20th road game, compared to 12 at home. The Ducks have not lost in regulation on home ice (10-0-2), and play the next three at the Honda Center
“It’s always great to be at home," coach Bruce Boudreau said. "Our fans are really rabid and they’re great. We’re looking forward to playing for them. We got three games this week. Hopefully they’re in droves and we can’t wait to get home.”
Who's hot: Corey Perry has a goal in four straight games and points in six straight (five goals, three assists) for the Ducks. Ryan Getzlaf has a 13-game point streak (nine goals, nine assists). ... The Islanders have scored three goals in three games and defenseman Andrew MacDonald has points on two of those.
Injury report: Anaheim is missing six players: defensemen Sheldon Souray (wrist), Francois Beauchemin (upper body), Luca Sbisa (wrist), goalie Viktor Fasth (lower body), and forwards Mathieu Perreault (lower body) and Jakob Silfverberg (hand). ... Defensemen Lubomir Visnovsky (concussion), Brian Strait (upper body) and goalie Evgeni Nabokov (groin) are on IR for the Islanders, though Nabokov could be ready to back up in goal as early as Tuesday in San Jose.
