LIGHTNING (11-4-0) at RED WINGS (9-5-3)
TV: RDS, SUN, FS-D
Last 10: Tampa Bay 8-2-0; Detroit 4-3-3
Big story: Valtteri Filppula, who played for the Red Wings for eight seasons, returns to Detroit for the first time as a member of the Lightning after signing a five-year, $25 million contract in the offseason.
Lightning: Tampa Bay earned its third straight win, 4-2 against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday. Ben Bishop was outstanding, making 38 saves, and Filppula had an empty-net goal, his sixth of the season.
Filppula was part of the Red Wings' 2008 Stanley Cup championship team and had been a fixture on offense.
"[Filppula] won a Cup there. He's a big part of their franchise," coach Jon Cooper told the Lightning website Friday after practice. "He makes plays that probably to the common player are not only high-risk but not even in the question of making. He makes them on a regular basis really without thinking about it.
"There's just that quiet confidence that he has about himself. To make the plays he makes, high-end plays … I didn't know he had that in his toolbox. He has poise under pressure."
Red Wings: Detroit lost 4-3 in overtime to the Dallas Stars on Thursday. The Red Wings were 70 seconds from winning in regulation before Cody Eakin tied the game late in the third period and Rich Peverley won it with 19 seconds left in overtime.
"It's a tough loss. We did a lot of good things. We played good enough defensively. I don't think they created that many chances. I think we created more," said Henrik Zetterberg, who had three assists.
Rookie Adam Almquist scored his first NHL goal but would have gladly exchanged that for two points instead of one.
"That was [too bad] we couldn't get the two points we wanted. It was a bitter end, bittersweet. We worked hard and deserved to win tonight," he said.
Detroit, which enters the game two points behind Tampa Bay in the Atlantic Division, will be looking to end a four-game home losing streak.
Who's hot: Steven Stamkos has scored a goal in five straight games for the Lightning. Bishop has allowed two goals or fewer in each of his past five starts. … In four games this month, Zetterberg has two goals and four assists.
Injury report: Red Wings centers Johan Franzen (illness) and Stephen Weiss (groin) will miss the game, and Franzen was placed on short-term injured reserve. Luke Glendening will be called up from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League, according to the team's website. Goalie Jonas Gustavsson (neck) is listed as questionable. Jonathan Ericsson (upper body) and Brendan Smith (shoulder) are on injured reserve. … The Lightning are without Mattias Ohlund (knee), Brian Lee (knee) and Tom Pyatt (broken collarbone), all of whom are on injured reserve.
