MAPLE LEAFS at BRUINS

(Boston leads best-of-7 series 1-0)

TV: CNBC, CBC, RDS, NESN

Big story: After spotting the Toronto Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead 1:54 into the first period, the Boston Bruins scored four straight on the way to a 4-1 victory in Game 1 on Wednesday at TD Garden. Defenseman Wade Redden scored his first Stanley Cup Playoff goal in six seasons to pull the Bruins into a 1-1 tie before assisting on Nathan Horton's deflection into the net with 11.7 seconds left in the first to give the home team the lead for good.

Team Scope:

Maple Leafs: Toronto will be without defenseman Michael Kostka, who sustained a broken finger in the second period of Game 1. Coach Randy Carlyle promised a few line adjustments and didn't rule out inserting defensemen Ryan O'Byrne and Jake Gardiner into the lineup for Game 2.

"I would suggest maybe one or both of them will play," Carlyle said. "There will also be some changes up front. We need to get more from our group from a work-ethic and execution standpoint. We never really got anything going for our hockey club against the Bruins [on Wednesday]."

Bruins: David Krejci had a goal and two assists, Milan Lucic dished two assists, and Tuukka Rask made 19 saves in Boston's Game 1 triumph. The three-point evening was the 13th multipoint playoff game of Krejci's career; his career-best is four points.

"Playoffs are so different than in-season," Krejci said. "You're trying to build something, and I feel like we built something in the first game. We have to carry it on into the second, but we know that Toronto is going to be even better on Saturday, so we have to bring our 'A' game again."

The Bruins will be without defenseman Andrew Ference, who was suspended one game by the NHL Department of Player Safety for an illegal check to the head of forward Mikhail Grabovski at 10:03 of the first period on Wednesday. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Julien opted to have Patrice Bergeron's line with Brad Marchand and Tyler Seguin on the ice whenever Phil Kessel's line was on the ice, and that is unlikely to change in Game 2. Kessel, who led the Maple Leafs with 20 goals and 52 points during the regular season, was limited to one shot in 13:51 of ice time on Wednesday.

"Bergeron is probably one of the best two-way players in the League, he can do that job," Julien said. "I think it was a matter of getting the right D's out there against those kind of players."

Who's hot: Lucic has one goal and five points in the past three games, and Krejci has two goals and five points in the past four games.

Injury report: Kostka is out, and Cody Franson (bruised foot) is day-to-day for Toronto. … The Bruins will be without Ference.
