Bruins hope to rebound against Sabres
Boston Bruins vs. Buffalo Sabres

BRUINS (21-8-4) at SABRES (13-16-6)

TV: TSN, NBCSN, NESN, MSG-B

Last 10: Boston 4-5-1; Buffalo 4-3-3.

Season series: This is the fourth of five meetings. The Sabres have won two of the first three contests against the Bruins.

Big story: Nobody is considered untouchable.

That’s the message Sabres general manager Darcy Regier relayed to reporters Saturday, just prior to his team’s 4-3 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals at First Niagara Center. With the Sabres mired in last place in the Northeast Division and 12th in the Eastern Conference, Regier will likely be a seller before Wednesday’s trade deadline.

“We have to be open to everything, and I think the players recognize that as well,” Regier said. “You’re looking to get a group of top players that are going to play together, not on a one-year basis, but going forward [on a] multi-year basis. So that’s our focus and it could involve any players and I think the players are aware of that.”

Team scope:

Bruins: Boston suffered another setback Saturday afternoon, when it was on the losing end of a 3-1 decision against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. It was the Bruins’ third loss in the past four games as they now sit three points behind the Montreal Canadiens in the Northeast Division race.

"You get some spurts where you're seeing some good things, but then the next line going up can't follow up," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "So we are not able to sustain much right now. The biggest challenge is every game we have one line that's scoring and the other three don't do a thing. Then it's a different line another game and then the other three don't do it. We can't win hockey games with just relying on one line per night producing for us."

Sabres: Buffalo’s skid reached three straight games Saturday, although it didn’t earn a point for the second consecutive game in a 4-3 shootout loss to Washington. Ville Leino scored his first two goals of the season for the Sabres, while Jhonas Enroth made 35 saves.

Sunday marks the first of two games for Buffalo before Wednesday’s trade deadline. The Sabres will visit Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

“They’re pros and they understand the time of the year that it is and Wednesday is the deadline and what’ll happen will happen,” Sabres interim coach Ron Rolston said. “They don’t have control over that, so they’ve been pretty focused.”

Who’s hot: Bruins forward Nathan Horton has scored in back-to-back contests, while Milan Lucic is 1-1-2 in the past three. … Sabres forward Tyler Ennis has two goals and six assists in the past seven games.

Injury report: Defenseman Adam McQuaid (shoulder) is out for the Bruins. … Sabres defenseman Alexander Sulzer is out with a knee injury. Thomas Vanek (upper body) is questionable.
