Flyers welcome in Jets for Saturday matinee
Winnipeg Jets vs. Philadelphia Flyers

JETS (7-8-1) at FLYERS (8-10-1)

TV: NBCSN, TSN2, RDS

Last 10: Winnipeg 4-6-0; Philadelphia 5-4-1

Season series: This is the second of three games between the teams this season, and the only one in Philadelphia. In their previous meeting, the Flyers won 3-2 in Winnipeg on Feb. 12.

Big story: After winning the first two games of their five-game trip, the Jets hope to keep their road success going in Philadelphia, while the Flyers try to bounce back from what the players called a tired outing Thursday against the Florida Panthers.

Team Scope:

Jets: Overshadowing the Jets' win Thursday in Carolina was the injury sustained by rookie defenseman Zach Redmond at the morning skate. Redmond was accidentally stepped on by a teammate, with the skate blade slicing the femoral artery and vein in Redmond's right leg.

Redmond was taken to a Raleigh-area hospital for nearly three hours of surgery to repair the injury. The Winnipeg Free Press reported Friday that Redmond would miss the rest of the season.

The Jets credited players and the team's training staff for helping Redmond get the medical help he needed, but said the 24-year-old blueliner is out indefinitely.

"He was awake, everything was fine," coach Claude Noel told the Winnipeg Sun. "We were talking to him, the trainers were talking to him. He was in some pain and probably shocked at what took place. Other than that, he was coherent going into the ambulance and they'll look after him here. He'll be fine."

Flyers: Kimmo Timonen gave an honest assessment of his team after Thursday's 5-2 loss to the Florida Panthers: "I usually don't make up excuses … but you saw a tired Flyers team today. Coming back from a six-game road trip, played a really hard-charged game [Wednesday], got two points, got home at 2 o'clock [in the morning]. We were tired [Thursday]."

That tiredness showed itself in the first 10 minutes of the game, as the Flyers allowed the Panthers to score three times in the first 10:15 of the game. It marked the 10th time in 19 games the Flyers had surrendered the game's first goal, and the seventh time they've trailed after one period -- they're 0-7 in those games.

The players are at a loss to explain the reason for the slow starts.

"I wish I could give you an answer to that," defenseman Nicklas Grossmann said. "It has been something we have been talking about. It's something we want to get better at. [Thursday], we weren't ready from the get-go and that cost us the game. It is something we have to address and it is not acceptable."

Who's hot: Jets forward Blake Wheeler had a pair of goals Thursday against the Hurricanes, including the game-winner with 4:54 left in the third period. … Flyers forward Jakub Voracek had a goal Thursday, giving him four in his last two games, and nine points in his last four games.

Injury report: Besides Redmond, the Jets are missing goalie Al Montoya (lower body) and defenseman Tobias Enstrom (shoulder). … The Flyers are without forwards Scott Hartnell (foot) and Jody Shelley (hip), defenseman Andrej Meszaros (shoulder) and goaltender Michael Leighton (finger).
